Hello,
I run my own plex pass server. Yesterday a friend sent me an invite to his plex pass server.
I can access and play media from both no problem.
My issue is that my plex server is downloading all the metadata for his media. Shouldn’t it just pull that from his server as needed?
He has 34+ TB of music and media, and 24 hours later my server is still downloading metadata for it all.
I tried searching the faqs and forums, perhaps my searching skills are weak, but I can’t find anything that remotely resembles my question/issue.
Thanks
That should absolutely NOT be the case. Something else is going on. You should only be getting information from his server “on demand.” On your end, your device should be functioning as a playback device only. Accessing only what is necessary, and discarding when it’s done.
What specific folders and files are you seeing increase in size? I assume you’re using the web interface to access his material?
Interestingly enough, I started monitoring my metadata and cache folders while this was going on, and neither was increasing in size.
but after 24 hours, it was still doing something with the remote server, because I kept seeing a stream of these:
downloading metadata for (file name from friends server) on (my server name)
finished processing for (file name from friends server) on (my server name)
However, a few mins ago, a new plex update popped up, I installed it, and all the activity stopped.
So I guess I assume it was either a bug that got fixed, or when plex restarted after installing the update, it fixed the issue.
There are instances, especially when I leave my web browser window open… that Plex displays errant data. For me, when remote users are watching, it will often display the wrong user name, wrong file, and various other wrong pieces of information. Normally closing out and logging back in solves this issue immediately.
I wonder if this is something similar? Like, it’s scanning your own files but for some reason is displaying errant data?
Thought it had started up again, but rebooted and it stopped. maybe i’m just going crazy
