Plex is working great within my own network at home. I’ve been trying to rack my brain why the remote server will not work. It will stay green just for a second and back to red. I have a netgear router plugged into my frontier. I have no idea how port forward and I do not want to mess up my internet setings. I have also disconnected my netgear router and tried to strictly use the frontier router. Same results so I do not think its a double NAT situation. Can anyone set this up for me, Ive spent hrs trying to figure this out.
Ensure the server has a fixed local IP address - use dhcp reservation IP address in the router for that
See portforward.com for instructions for your router - they cover a lot of routers
You need to port forward a public port to local private port 32400 to go to the dhcp reserved ip of the server. The public port could be 32400 but if your router permits you to have different port for public and private then you could use different port for public
Save changed and restart the router
Restart the server computer just so that the dhcp reservation can be tested and the ip is set to the one you reserved
On plex server setting select remote access and show advanced. And tick manually specify port and enter the public port you forwarded to 32400
Click connect t on the manually specify port
Do not do too many Clicks in quick succession
You may need to have inbound firewall port rule specifying local port 32400 and protocol tcp and remote ip : any and programs : any - just a port rule
If you continue to have issues see the troubleshooting remote access article on support.plex.tv
(yea, that’s about as far as I’m willing to go at this time. Wait until his TV Shows are invisible and I check in for that lecture. That should incite invective with real meaning)
