Hello i am trying to remote play x264 and x265 files under 2 Mbps .
My upload on the server line is 5Mbps.
Direct play shows no transcoding and/or indirect connection.
Limits for remote play are at maximum (original) Quality.
For some freaking reason all clients report direct play but the connection speed is capped to 1Mbps !
Funny thing ? Sometimes when i turn off hardware acceleration remote streaming works fine for a minute and then goes back to 1Mbps while direct playing and not indirect connection are reported.
Can someone help me , I have searched everywhere for a freaking solution to this ultimately stupid problem but no joy !
Please find attached the settings of my server .
The field of the upload speed might be empty in this pic but i have tried filling it up with the value of 5 and still no joy !
What does this mean?
Do you experience stopping playback?
The bandwidth number shown in the Dashboard is the maximum bandwidth which is needed to play the current file. You said above that your file only have between 1 and 2 mbps. So this is suiting your files.
So that fits
Not necessarily.
That will only be true if the 5 mbps upload bandwidth is actually available.
Have you performed a bandwidth test (using the same machine which also holds your Plex server)?
Your bandwidth graph above suggests that there is not a bigger upload bandwidth available. Otherwise it would show higher spikes and wider spaces inbetween those spikes.
Could you repeat the playback test with disabled hardware transcoding, and let it run for at least a minute, then make the same screenshot with the bandwidth graph above?
(Although it shouldn’t make any difference, because the playback above didn’t even use transcoding.)
Oh my you are probably right .
I am trying download a file from the same server via ssh and the speed is at most 1Mbps .
Which is weird because speedtest.net reports 5Mbps upload and at the time of both tests no other device is using the upload speed as reported by my router . . .
You might want to test the bandwidth of your local network first. Sometimes weird “power saving” settings on the network adapters are causing giant drops in bandwidth.
If you have GBit ethernet, verify that all 8 wires are connected and not just 4.
If you use WiFi, replace that with Ethernet wires. (you should never use WiFi for a Plex server and its media storage)
Nop LAN is ok every network adapter reports GBit connections no problem, i can play 4k content locally with no issues what so ever .
There is something wrong with my WAN UP speed …
