Remote video play in browser works, android app and TVs fail

so @guinness1771 problem seems to have been solved related to his pfsense.

However my Android remote play problem is still there and seems to be related to secure certificate, where it only works if I disable Secure connections on server. Could you please have a look at my log file in post 42 in this thread or if you have any idea how to solve this?

The annoying thing is that until 10 days ago it was all working fine.

From what little I understand of the Android app,

  1. I see sync activity
  2. I see attempt at playback from a 94.206.x.x address time out.
  3. There are 3 consecutive timeouts

Please share the LAN network topology, including addressing because what I think I’m seeing is a non-compliant RFC-1918 network – OR – there are no local playback attempts in the log.

@ChuckPa Thanks, see above my network setup. Please let me know if you need more details?

Oh and yes there wouldn’t be any local playback attempts in that log as that is a log from Android phone connected remotely through LTE connection.

My other brother called me tonight with the same playback error on android as well. Said he’s tried everything even logging out and back in. So I told him to clear both cache and data in the android app settings which forces you to set the app up again including login, and it worked. Every Android device I have required this to get it working after the last server update.

My server settings never allow insecure playback as well.

Good luck.

Thanks, I tired that many times on both Android TV and the phone. Doesn’t make any difference…

Any update @ChuckPa? Do you need a full server log?

@ChuckPa I have just updated the server to the latest update, restarted, turned off firewall but the problem is still there and is unchanged: Android app doesn’t play if secure connection is Preffered only works if it is Disabled.

I have found in server log this line:
CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: stream truncated
which I think is consistent with your finding that there was no response from the server in the Android client log.

Can you please let me know if you have any ideas on how to solve this or if you can suggest how should I go about solving this? Should I start a new thread? Is there anyone in the team that might be able to troubleshoot the Android client problem?

Thanks!

@ChuckPa did you have a chance to look at this? Do you need me to post full server log?

So earlier today I updated plex server (it updates automatically at startup) and now I’m remote and can’t play anything with Android! Common plex developers! You’ve gotta get a stable Android app. Right now I can only play things remotely on my work iPhone. Please please fix your Android app!

Updated PMS Version 1.19.5.3112 today, nothing plays for more than 10 minutes before it freezes.
Dashboard shows its playing direct stream. Firestick at the latest version non beta.

swapped it out for a Roku 3 and it plays fine…

Someone needs to get this Android fixed, this can’t keep going on, it’s been like months…

Oh I tried the old and new player no change…

Is there a way to roll back the server to an older version that works with Android remote access?

I don’t know for sure, but I can’t do that since my container does updates automatically on boot.

Probably need to start a new thread. This one is marked solved up above and I believe we are being ignored. :frowning:

Hahaha I already did that and now being ignored on that one as well. Just found more people with the same problem :joy::rofl:

To roll back…
I know in the windows version that the updates are kept in the update folder with PMS…

You need to stop Plex before starting the update…

I don’t think that anyone is looking at this thread any more as it is marked as solved. Can you guys please comment on my new thread I started that I linked to in my previous post as there is no response from Plex on it? Thanks.
