Hi, I have two computers running Plex in my home. I keep getting a message telling me I need to pay for the Plex Remote Watch Pass in order to watch my movies, even though I’m on my tablet on the same wifi and in the same room as the computers.
My tablet does not have cellular data.
Signing out solves the problem for a day or two.
What do I do to keep using Plex in my home with no intention of needing Plex Remote Watch Pass?
Could be a network issue. If your wifi uses a subnet that separates network traffic from wired network traffic, Plex will have to use the relay to connect your devices, which is “remote” and triggers this.
To check this, on your tablet, list the IP address of your device (don’t worry that anyone can do bad things with it, knowing your private or “interior” IP addresses can’t help anyone hack you).
Also go to your server, and list its IP address.
All devices have multiple ways to find the IP depending on what kind of device/operating system. If you cannot google it, ask here and tell us what kind of device it is and we can help.
Ever since Plex introduced Remote Watch Pass I have been having problems with devices on my own network. I have been using Plex (Linux server) for years on multiple devices within my network without a problem and now it is so unreliable that I am considering moving to Jellyfin. The only devices that reliably connect are those running Ethernet on my home network. These devices run Windows, Linux or ChromeOS Flex on Ethernet. Once you move to WiFi, connection is unreliable and devices running the Plex Mobile app hardly ever work. I have no intention of purchasing RemoteWatch Pass for local access. Can you tell me if I should switch Remote Access on of off? Can you tell if I should turn Relay on or off? Can you tell me if I should insert a Custom URL? Can you tell me if I should insert individual IP addresses in List IP Addresses and Networks …? The Plex Mobile app sometimes works when you sign out, clear caches & local storage and sign in again. The server and the mobile app are the lastest versions.
