Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but after hours of playing around with my Mac Mini, IR controller and iPhone with iRule loaded on it, I finally got it to sleep via IR.
I wasn’t been able to find any other info on the net about sleeping the Mac Mini with a universal IR controller on the internet, so that’s why I thought I would post my findings here.
I used the iTach, iLearn to learn the Mac’s remote code for the holding of the Play button on the remote, which actually sends out the play command then a continual repeat of a different command. So for anyone who needs the hex for this command, here it is:

Just set your universal IR remote to send this signal once and your mac with sleep!

Thanks for your contribution CraigSmith. I’m currently using irule and its been difficult getting some help maybe we can help each other. Just to let you know I’m able to almost fully control plex running on my macbook pro but will attempt to send commands to my new ATV2. Let me know if you need help with navigating directly to a specific folder e.g. Movies, Music or TV Shows
I use RemoteBuddy and iRule with iTach.
With this combination you have as much commands as you wish.
