I have a QNAP NAS with Plex Media Server installed on it. My system has worked fine for several years now. However, I tried to add the two-factor authentication and something went wrong. The process was never complete but is now listed as “active” in settings. When I try to update this or remove the 2FA, PMS asks for a verification code. Since this was never set up during the 2FA process, I am locked out of making this change. I have mislaid the codes that came with my PMS setup and cannot re-set the program in that way. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to correct this?
Unfortunately, I never got so far in the 2FA setup to get the QR image. So, no recovery codes were ever received. I do not understand how or why my account now shows the 2FA as enabled. Is there any way to reverse this?
Your account shows the 2FA connection was successful. If there was an error, it happened with your authenticator. Read the article I mentioned above. There is a way to receive a recovery code from Plex. Do it once to gain sign into your account, then do it a second time to get another code to remove the 2FA.
This has gotten me a little farther. I am now logged in to my PMS account and I see where the 2FA is active. When I click on “Edit” I receive two choices - Disable or Generate New Recovery Codes. Both selections require a verification code. Where do I get a verification code if my authenticator app was never connected to Plex?
I have it. I did not realize a recovery code and a verification code could be the same thing. I have now disabled 2FA on my account and will look in to re-setting it up. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
