Over the last few days I have noticed that Plex is displaying new titles incorrectly. I’ve been using Plex for several years and have not noticed this issue. I use the recommended naming convention of Title (Year).extension and have always had luck with matches. What it appears to now be doing is grabbing the title from the Description area under Details in the file properties instead of just using the file name. I can correct this manually, but I’d like to not have to do this for each file going forward, this would be painful if I were to do a long running TV series…
Which agent are you using for this library?
If you’re using the Plex Movie agent, there should be an option in the advanced tab of the library to use/ignore embedded metadata. For other/older agents you can achieve the same by enabling/disabling the Local Media Assets source or decreasing its priority for the respective agent (Settings > [Server Name] > Agents → Movies).
Bingo, you nailed it. I had found other posts suggesting disabling Local Media Assets, but that did not seem to work. I unchecked the Prefer Local Metadata and refreshed and the tiles have been fixed.
Thanks!
