Remove Plex completely - and reinstall - on Qnap TS 451+

Hi - in last few days I’d been adding some movies to my Plex server.
Two of the files weren’t playing ok - so I replaced them.
However - these replacement files still wouldn’t play.
So I tried a few other things hoping that when the indexing completes, the new files would “stick” and playback would be ok.
It didn’t.

So I took the bold step of (what I thought) was uninstalling Plex from my QNAP, and reinstalling.
The result was that not only did the files in question not play back - every file wouldn’t play back - with the same errors.

Strangely, playback would be fine when viewing files on my PC - but both playback via my 4K Firestick and mobile device would not work.

Anyway - I decided to create a new server - but the same result happened.
It seems that when I removed the Plex installation via the QNAP application manager - residual files aren’t removed - so it’s not like you are truly starting from scratch when you re-add Plex.

What I’d like to do at this point - even though it’ll take time to rebuild the database - is remove the plex installation, and remove any residual files and folders, so that it’s like I’m truly installing Plex for the first time - then I can re-index my libraries.

How do I do this?

Any help is really appreciated.

When you uninstall on QNAP, everything is removed.

The metadata and temporary directories are contained in the .qpkg structure.

Uninstall is a completely destructive operation.

So - why then, after I’ve reinstalled Plex, would I experience the same issues as previously - in fact worse now given that none of the video I have on my server plays back?

When I think about it, it’s possible that I didn’t stop the server before uninstalling.

Could that be the issue?

The problems still exist because the root problem has not been solved.

The server (QPKG) is stopped before it is uninstalled.

If any files are open at the time of deletion, the Linux kernel & file system silently removes those now-unnamed files after they are closed. There is no recovery (undelete) on the ext4 file system.

Firstly - Chuck - really appreciated the help - I didn’t expect anyone to get back so quickly on this.
So what could be the source of the problem?
One of the devices I’ve been testing with is my old-ish LG G4 mobile phone which is running a custom ROM.

Curiously - I just uninstalled the Plex app on my phone - et voila - it’s working.
I’ll test out my Firestick tonight.

I think maybe something was up with the initial server - but the new server has done the trick.
Uninstalling the Plex app on my phone wasn’t doing anything until I built the new server.

I also didn’t realise that having your library on the “Multmedia” partition on the QNAP is a bad idea - so I created a brand new location for the new Plex library. All seems tickety boo now.

Thanks for all your help. It’s always reassuring when you post a query like mine and there’s some rapid response - even if it doesn’t resolve things straight away - too often on other forums you post a question and get no answer at all - which doesn’t give you confidence in the platform.
Clearly Plex is well supported.
