Server Version#: Synology DS420j (DSM 7)
Player Version#: 1.25.9.5721-7000
Hello, I recently upgraded from an older DSM to DSM 7. After the conversion, my Plex no longer worked. I did the file permission changes, but my Plex account would not play any of the media. It would all show up and the metadata was still current, but when I tried to play something, it would say the file is unavailable. I could play it with other apps like Video Station, but Plex wouldn’t. To try to fix this, I restarted my NAS, temporarily disabled my firewall, uninstalled and reinstalled PMS several times ( I first uninstalled the PMS only, not the other meta files), and then uninstalled and unclaimed the server and then reinstalled, but nothing worked. One forum recommended removing and adding the NAS from the PMS’s Authorized devices. I was able to remove it, but cannot re-add it to my Plex account. Now without being able to even connect to my PMS, I can’t see any of my videos and I’m at the point where I am ready to do a full uninstall and create a new Plex account to start over from scratch just to get it working, but wanted to reach out to see if there is anything else I can try before I go the nuclear option route.
To claim the server, using a private/incognito browser window, from a system on the same subnet as the Synology, point your browser at the Synology’s IP address: http://syno_ip_address:32400/web.
- You must be on the same network as the Synology to claim it. Remote connections are not supported, unless using a SSH tunnel.
- Do not use app.plex.tv, Synology QuickConnect, a FQDN, the “open” button in Synology Package Center, etc.
- The incognito window is to disable cookie cutters, adblockers, etc.
Thank you FordGuy61. I had tried using the IP address before (in Chrome) and it wouldn’t go through and would just say it cannot connect on the default Chrome page for a failed connection, but I was not in an incognito window. In the incognito window It has gone farther and I was able to get to the Plex sign-in page. I signed in and it is just spinning now like it is loading. I will let it spin for a while longer and then may try again, but this is much farther than I was able to get on my own. Thanks for the help.
I had to refresh the page, but it just went through and I was able to connect the server to my Plex account. Thank you so much. I spent so many hours trying to fix this yesterday, so glad I didn’t have to close my account and start over.
Glad you were able to get things working.
FYI, closing an account is never the correct course of action when troubleshooting a Plex Media Server problem. I’ve been using Plex for several years and I’ve never seen account deletion recommended.
Cheers
