Removing and Re-adding Metadata for TV Shows

OK, forgive me if this is listed someplace because I have yet to find it.

I need a way to remove metadata and re-add it. I had the TV Series Frasier added without embedded metadata. It was OK, but not the way it should be.

I used metaX to embed the data and cover art. However, when I readded the series to Plex it keeps all of the old metadata.

I tried for days to unmatch, rematch, re-add the metadata only to create gigabytes worth of folders and data.

Tonight I remove gigabytes of the bundles folders from every directory 0,1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8,9,a,b.c,d,e,f

I re-added the series and still I have all of the old metadata and Plex still remembers the last episode I watched in the On Deck area.

What Gives with this??? why is this so hard. I cleared the Caches directory also and still I have the old data!!! I’m frustrated beyond belief here…

You cannot micromanage PMS from inside its data structures.
PMS also maintains a SQLite3 database, none of which is meant to be directly human-managed.

There is a FAR easier way to what you’re trying to accomplish and is the standard procedure.

  1. Move the series away from where PMS is monitoring
  2. Scan files, allowing to complete
  3. Empty Trash
  4. Clean Bundles, allowing to complete
  5. Optimize Database
  6. Move the series back into monitored position
  7. Scan files again if not already automatically detected.

This is known throughout the forum as the “Plex Dance”.

Given you’ve removed so many files manually, the state of your PMS installation is probably damaged.

To remedy this, I strongly recommend:

  1. For each library section you have defined:
  2. Scan files
  3. Refresh all metadata for that section

When all processing is complete:

  1. Clean bundles
  2. Optmize Database
