Removing Genres

Server Version#: 4.22.3
Player Version#:
I have been adding my whole DVD library into PLex… Taking advantage of working from home… during this crazy time!
I have been using DVDFab to rip my DVDs to MP4’s
when i copy them into my plexserver folder, and scan the media, the Genres, have been importing like this.
Action & Adventure & Comedy & Crime
ALL IN ONE so if i try and remove say COMEDY, from the genre, i cant i have to remove the WHOLE list, and add INDIVIDUAL TAGS…
so, since im doing this from scratch, I have been removing the imported categories,
and adding the individual Genre tags…
In doing so, i have TONS of genre’s that arent being used, and also one or two i spelled wrong… HOW can i clean up the Genres, NOT being used…

I assume this is genres from embedded metadata?
If you want Plex to use embedded metadata… make sure to properly tag those fields. In MP4 containers, those fields with multiple entries are just 1 text field. It’s up to apps to interpret that data as multiple entries – the official convention is / to separate individual entries. Most apps however will also work with , (comma) separated entries.
& however is not a recognized separator.

If you want to allow Plex to pull you the genre information same as the other metadata from its online sources… make sure you have Local Media Assets set as a lower priority source for the agent used in that library.
