I recently lost my main machine that was hosting PMS. I was able to save all of my library drives.
I rebuilt my server into a Mac Pro 5,1 running windows 10 enterprise LTSC 22H2 in Bootcamp. I would rather have built it into OS X, but my lack of a metal capable video card prevents me from using the latest version.
Everything was going rather well until I accidentally shared an entire HDD into my TV library. I didn’t notice that I had added that drive right away until suddenly all of these unknown TV shows started showing up that I knew I did not have, after looking at the “Info” of one of them, I realized my error and I immediately edited that library to remove the Drive reference.
And so I did everything conceivably possible to clean all of my bundles, remove trash, rescan the library, reanalyze the library, and still those unknown items insisted on continuing to be listed in my library. The initial library scan had actually located things like DVD ISO images, some iPhone mov files, some random mkvs and mp4s, even some mp3 and wav files. I was surprised that it did not reject the DVD ISO images because I had tried adding some of my backed up DVDs to my library in the past, and it never worked. Unless that has changed now? That is something I can explore later.
I had originally read this thread, and others:
My problem isn’t exactly like that one, but this brings me to the problem that I have been having, sometimes I just want to remove a show, but I don’t necessarily want to remove the media from my computer. In all the years I have been using Plex I haven’t seen any way of simply removing a library entry. The only option we have is to delete it altogether, which also deletes the media. Is there something that I am missing, a solution I never saw? If this subject has come up before with a solution, I apologize, but I did look through these forums before I posted this, most of the threads I found were old and locked. So I just thought I would open up a new one.
I actually thought of a way to solve this for now, I opened up that hard drive and I moved every folder that contained items that had been put into my TV library into a new folder, and then I went through my TV library, deleted all of the shows that I knew were not really there. Fortunately, my solution worked, and all of the excess unknown TV shows are all gone.
The only question is, if I put those folders back, is there some residue in my Plex database that will restore those unwanted items? Of course I am going to do everything I can to clean my libraries and my server before I put the folders back.
But wouldn’t it be easier to just add a function into our library where we can choose a TV show or a movie or even music albums and simply click remove from library? Unless there is some issue that prevents that kind of feature being added.
Also, my previous media server was based upon 32 bit PMS, I built this new server using the 64 bit version. There seems to be a couple of minor differences.
Thank you.
