I have a Win10 PC that used to host my plex server and it was named CAP and I setup a new server on a Raspberry Pi named NEW. My Raspberry Pi died and I am moving back to the PC and want to rename that old server CAP to NEW so I don’t lose the old authorized users from NEW. Is this possible?
The name of the server is not what defines the shares. It is the server ID number. And these are different between different servers.
You cannot move shares between servers, unless
- the other server is working with a 1:1 copy of the database of the old server
- the server ID has been transferred to the new machine. Doing so is possible, but very difficult across different operating system plaforms. And if a server ID is transferred, the old server must never be fired up again, or clients will not know which machine to speak to as their server.
I’m afraid you will have to use
Account Settings - Manage Library Access
and then edit each user’s permissions separately.
