Replacing old slow with new faster

Different server names. All personal media copied to the newer faster PC. I’ve read about the port 32400, and doing 32401 for the 2nd server, but don’t want to mess with that because I will eventually terminate the 1st one if I ever get the 2nd one up and running correctly. Seems the 2nd server is pulling the media from the 1st because when I shut down the 1st, the 2nd says the 1st is not found and I have exclamation points on all libraries. My stupid question is, once I take the 1st one down for good, will the 2nd “automatically” take over 32400 and become the primary and only server? Only difference between the two is the 1st is Win10, the newer faster (2nd) is Win11.

Many thanks.

This is only about remote access, which is something that you should not care about at this stage. Try first to transfer the server data to the new machine and ensure it’s working correctly so far.

Did you copy over both the plex data folder AND the registry data?
If you did, then the two servers share a common identity.
You need to untangle them first, so they become individuals.

After you did that, you can go and reset your client apps to use the new server as their default. It involves resetting and re-populating their left side bars with the libraries of the new server.

No sir, I didn’t copy any server data or registry data. Only copied media files. There are 2 different server names listed.in devices, so maybe I’m almost there. Just think it’s strange the new one seems to be looking for and pulling from the old. Basically I was attempting a new install. The activity icon on the new was spinning for quite some time last night, finding credits, etc.

Thanks again.

I see. As long as you claimed the new server properly, it should already appear both in https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms as well as when you edit the sidebar in your clients.
(sometimes you need to reboot a client, or Switch User back and forth for a newly created server to appear)

I verified the new server was claimed. The old one is as well. I shutdown the old, rebooted the new. Opened Plex on the new - it says no content available - check your connection. However, I can go to my android phone app, and play items from the new server. Thanks in advance for any help.

Refer to these links for the clients which don’t show the new server yet:

Thanks Otto. Everything seems to be working now. Would you advise to delete the old server from authorized devices, or just keep it shut down for now?

If everything works with the new server, I’d remove the old one.
Unless you want to go back, for some reason.
