Looking at the guide above I wanted confirm if I move from a System A to System B if shared users will retain access, and also see the new host name of the server? I don’t want to re-send invites to everyone in my family.
If you follow the guide closely and don’t forget to copy over the preferences from the Windows registry/the preferences.xml file then this will make you a perfect ‘clone’.
If you ‘clone’ a server using this procedure, the users will effectively see no change at all.
If you want to change the ‘friendly server name’, do it after the move.
And you don’t want to run the ‘original’ server once the ‘clone’ is up. This is not possible.
If you want to keep running the ‘original’ server, you must lose the sharees from it instead, by changing its ‘machine identifier’ in its settings.
