Renamed mp3 file is not found

Hi all,

I could not get an mp3 file to play in iTunes and realized the file name was incorrect. I modified the file name and iTunes now plays correctly; however, the file name is not updated on my Plex server. I can see reference to the incorrect file name but cannot Edit it. Rescan library does not work either. I could delete the file but not sure how to add it back.

Any ideas?

Old file name: * /volume1/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/John Kimbrough/Mancini/01 21str Century Man.mp3

New file name: * /volume1/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/John Kimbrough/Mancini/01 21st Century Man.mp3 (REMOVED the ‘r’ in 21str to 21st)

  1. Move file completely away from where it’s being monitored
  2. Scan files
  3. Optimise Database
  4. Empty Trash
  5. Clean bundles
  6. Move file back
  7. Scan Files

The Plex Dance :tm:

Tried multiple times but the album/files will not delete and once moved back and rescan, the old file name is still persisting. I’ve confirmed that after the file is moved away on my local PC, it is also no longer on my Synology NAS (backups are auto-sync),

Should I delete the album/file from my Plex Library? When I select Delete, it says “Are you sure you want to delete this item from your filesystem? Multiple items may be deleted.”

I have figured out the issue. After deleting the entire Music library from Plex, it would not add back. Oddly, I found that Movies added to Synology NAS were added to the Plex Movie library. Turns out the ‘plex’ user on the Synology File Station music folder had been deleted so Plex could not access the library. Added the plex user and it is all working now.

Good catch.

I should have remembered to warn:

Using any of the Synology pre-defined shared folders is dangerous.
DSM likes to keep ‘bumping’ Plex off the access list
