Renaming/Updating a File in Plex

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I noticed that I misspelled the name of a Behind the Scenes feature on one of my movies. I renamed the file thinking it would update and fix itself in Plex, but no such luck. The file still shows up on Plex with the typo’d name, and I get an error message when I try to play the file. Eventually I had to change the name back to the typo version in order to make it all work.

TL;DR - If I rename a file on my Plex server, how can I force Plex to recognize the renamed file?

re-scan the library.

I’ve tried that, and it doesn’t work. Just to walk you through what I’ve done to make sure I’m not messing something up:
Renamed the files. Clicked the 3 dots to the right of my Movies library. Selected “Scan Library Files.” The network activity logo gets a spinning circle for a second, and then it’s done. The extras are still showing with the incorrect name, and if I click play on them I get an error message that reads, “Playback Error - Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.”

Am I doing something wrong?

Refresh Metadata of the movie in question.

Does it show 1 or 2 files for that item? Worst case is to do the plex dance

Otto nailed it. Refreshing the metadata updated the extras based off the correctly named files.

Thanks all!
