Currently when deleting a movie in PHT or Plexweb it only deletes the movie file. I have my movies in separate folders so I can add posters & trailers and stuff. So now I have to manually delete the folders which takes a lot of time. Would be nice and logical if it also deletes the containing folder with the same name.
I agree with Sarcas: the parent folder should also be deleted if it has the same name.
This is something I really would appreciate. It is much more comfortable to delete something from your library using one of the clients or Plexweb than in the file browser itself. And by doing that I want to be sure the “whole thing” got wiped out from my disk.
Same here. This will save a lot of time deleting duplicate movies
While the ability to delete folders with movies could be an advantage for some care should be taken as many folks, me for one, do not use, have never used and do not want to use separate folders for individual movies. While I do have movies, like the “Back to the Future” series or the “Star Wars” movies in folders that are named similar to at least some or one of the movies in the folder I do not use that for individual movies.
If this is implemented it should be optional and able to be completely turned off in settings and be off by default until turned on.
Personally I believe the using the file system is the best and safest way to delete and maintain the library. I distrust using clients for anything other than playing content under normal circumstances.

Detecting if the user uses folder-per-movie or a flat hierarchy:
It should be straight forward to determine this just by looking at how many of the movies in the user library are contained in the given folder - if only a single movie resides in a given folder, the users uses a folder-per-movie strategy, and vice-versa.
When using the delete function on a given movie, a query could be performed to check if other movies reside in the same direct-parent folder of the given movie file, if so do nothing, otherwise delete the folder (or alternatively ask the user).
Often with a folder-per-movie strategy, one would have related metadata in the same folder (such as trailers, extras etc.), so getting rid of this stuff would be a great addition to the delete functionality.
+1
Should be an option of course, but do not see any issues with it. Feature should be defined as:
“[ ] Delete parent folder on last movie deletion”.
That should do it. So if there is no movie left in a folder, then it is save to assume that only sidecar files are present, or folder is empty anyways and folder can be deleted. If someone is not sure for his/her file structure, disable the feature.
Do be honest, this missing feature prevents me from using folders at all, as I am reluctant to clean up the my whole movie folder by hand again and again.
Just saw that there were no votes for this request. Please vote for it in addition to reply.
Seems a small enough feature to add that would really make deleting movies more convenient
Would love for this to exist, my Plex server is cluttered with hundreds if not thousands of now rogue files that I’m always having to manually cleanup myself.
