Request -- Display season posters for Recently Added and Continue Watching (On Deck)

I’m not sure why this should even be a “feature request” because I would think that everyone would want the poster from Season 3 when an episode from Season 3 is added to Plex in “On Deck” and “Recently Added.” Unfortunately, Plex insists that I want to see the poster for the Show, not the Season. Plex can tell me the episode is from Season 3, the episode number, and the title, but the only time I will see the poster is if I navigate to the Show and view the available seasons.

I believe the logic (if you can call it that) is something like this:

For “On Deck” :

  • always display the poster for the Show, never display the Season Poster
  • include the season # and episode # and title of the episode in description

For “Recently Added” :

  • Add one episode from any season - display the Show poster
  • Add two or more episodes from the same season - display the Season Poster
  • Add 2 or more episodes from 2 or more seasons - display the Show Poster

The decision for the On Deck poster to always be the Show poster makes no sense to me at all, and the only decision that I really understand for Recently added is the last bullet above. What really perplexes me is the second bullet - if I can get the season poster when I add two episodes, why can’t I get the season poster when I only add one?

I often add episodes in batches of two or three at the same time. I’m sure I am in the minority in that respect. The inconsistency in poster selection is apparent when you see On Deck and Recently Added like in the screen shot I’ve attached. I admit, it’s colorful and definitely not boring to look at, but it is inconsistent. There’s 14 different posters for only 9 shows.

No, it’s not a “I’m gonna quit using Plex” annoyance, and there are other problems that obviously require the immediate attention of the devs. However, Plex knows what season, episode and title is next up and/or recently added, and will display the season poster if you add multiple episodes to the same season, so it can’t be a monumental task to show the season poster for single episodes.

I’ll like that one.

Yes, I like this. I also see the inconsistency in how Plex handles posters for OnDeck/RecentlyAdded.

Despite the apparent lack of interest in this request, a gentle bump.

Tautulli, (the new version of PlexPy) correctly shows season posters in the Recently Added section. If they can do it, there really can’t be a reason why Plex can’t do it. I would think the server is already sending out the required information, and Tautulli is simply displaying in a somewhat logical manner.

I’ll bump this too. Was just wondering why this isn’t a thing. It should be the default to be honest.

Don’t forget to vote(like the first post)

Bump. It should really be that way by default…

Couldn’t find a rule that I couldn’t bump a post. Sorta surprised no one sees this as annoying as I do.

Really, Plex Devs … it almost has to be as easy as " a copy and paste" whatever code shows the “season” poster if I add two episodes over the code that shows the “show” poster if I add one episode. I know things are never that simple, but it can’t be that hard to implement.

Just googled for this feature and ended up here. “liked” the top post!

thumbs up for this!
Really cant see why it isn’t default to show Season poster for On Deck.

this is required, cant see the problem

Users are the minority group that can see the problem, and the solution, but Plex is the majority group that doesn’t see a problem, can’t reproduce it, and therefore, knows it doesn’t exist.

Plex doesn’t care what ‘Users’ want. Plex thinks it’s fine as it is - and you will soon grow to love it as much as Plex does.

Or, you can start using Emby… HA!
Well, there’s no real danger of that happening, so what Plex does, or doesn’t do, for you - is exactly what you’re in for…
Deal with it the best you can.

Welcome Aboard!

I like this concept as well

How odd. why is this still in general discussions section and not in the “votable” feature suggestion section?

I wondered myself, but I assumed there’s another similar request that accepts votes (although I can’t find it). To be honest, I’ve tried a couple of times to make this thread “votable” and even tried creating a new one, but can’t find the option to do that, and kinda gave up. Maybe a forum admin has to set that?

Also wondering why every post has the checkmark for “this post has solved the problem”

Can we make this into a feature request. It was before the forum moved over to Discourse, and of course, all of the likes (the old way of voting) have been lost. I’ve searched for a similar feature request, and if there is one, I’d be willing to merge it with that one, if that’s another option.

Thanks in advance.

i agree, should show season poster of the tv show. Hope the devs look into this.

Same here, hope these features will appear soon.

I’m giving this a bump. It seems like an obvious oversight that should be an easy fix.

Plex will display the season poster if you add 2 or more episodes to one season, so it’s apparent that Plex can retrieve the season poster. Plex displays the Season #, and the episode #, and the title, so the information is readily available. And finally, it just makes sense to show the poster for the season in most cases, especially in shows that are long running, or that have “Themed” or “Named” seasons.

Did this get anywhere? I’m super keen for this too.
