Heads up everyone - we have pushed the new experience out to everyone. As this is now the default experience for everyone, we will be drawing down our level of discussion in this Experience Preview section of the forums. Please move any discussions, comments, concerns, etc over to the Streaming Devices section. You can find additional information no this release here:
PS - I will be stepping back from this thread and all other Roku comms in this channel and keeping an eye on thigns over in Streaming Devices. I would like to end with a huge thanks to all of the feedback and comments as we worked on getting this release out. We really do appreciate all of you!
Which Release Notes topic is the one we should continue to follow for ongoing updates? The original Plex for Roku or the New Experience topic? Wasnât sure how temporary the New Experience topic was and just cleaning up some feeds after this release.
I donât like this new UI at all. Itâs forced On Demand and Discover to be there, both of which I had hidden. My Home screen no longer shows content even though I can see content in my Libraries section. I have to reorder all my Libraries even though I already did that. I can only see a few Libraries listed in the nav bar. I donât like that it automatically switches when you navigate, itâs very distracting.
Give us more UI options so those of us who liked the old way can still have it.
Nope, I will literally delete my Plex account, this new theme is completely unusable, revert back to the old one or Iâm done. Iâm sick and tired of companies thinking they can just force new UIâs on people and ruin their entire lives, completely disorganizing everything, moving it all around, and making it literally more difficult to use the application. Stop trying to copy Apple, and revert back to the old theme or I am deleting my account
My TV updated after lunch today. What a diaper fire! Navigation sucks compared to the previous version, and it keeps breaking so I can only select Watch from the video selection screen.
Just got this on my Roku. Oh my God is it bad. The purpose of redesigns is to make it easier to access the content you want. Now my libraries are relegated to submenus? This is just cumbersome and in no way welcome. The background art disappears the second you highlight an album, a TV season or a movie within a collection. Keeping the long horizontal scrolling for long running TV series is incredibly tedious. Who thought this was a good idea?
Edit: Theme music stopped working for TV shows. The synopsis area for movies and TV shows is laughable. Expanding it just displays text with the generic color scheme generated from the background art that disappears.
I mentioned this error 18 days ago and no one gave an answer. Today with the update for the main channel this error continues in which the backgrounds get out of focus when clicking on any movie/tvshow and itâs annoying I donât know how they release something global without first fixing errors.
Every single time you guys release an update Iâm more inclined to move to Jellyfin. This update for Roku is particularly abysmal. For starters the UI is so un-intuitive, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old UI. Itâs not just that itâs different, I have absolutely no problem adapting to change but when you completely rework it and make the app slower, harder to navigate, and less configurable itâs just a complete joke. I also cannot control the media while it is playing. Cannot pause, fast forward, go back, or anything. When I exited the episode I was halfway through because I could not pause it, it then showed that it was completed. I also cannot change users in my Plex Home, when I click on my profile it shows me as logged out despite having all my content and watchlist there. But when I go to sign in, my only option is to create an account with Roku, sign in with my Roku email, or manually enter the username and password. My Roku and Plex emails are different, and as any security-conscious person my password is bothersome to enter navigating a virtual keyboard with a remote. We used to be able to sign in with a code on a phone, why you guys constantly remove valuable features such as this and watch together baffles me. And now I cannot even go back to the sign-in page, I cannot navigate between the top bar and the main screen with up/down and can only get to the top bar by clicking the back button, and then canât go back to the main screen. My patience with Plexâs terrible updates that users never asked for is growing very thin, I donât want you to fix these problems, I want you to roll back to the previous version which was not missing any functionality whatsoever and was so much easier to navigate. I can only imagine what my less tech-conscious family will think when they try to use Plex on Roku, most likely they will just switch to Netflix when Plex doesnât work as it should.
Edit: After a few more minutes of unsuccessfully trying to use Plex on Roku, Iâm just not using it until you rollback the update. Not worth the headache I will just use it on my computer which still has the same UI. Also why in the world would you rework the entire UI for only one version of Plex? Are you trying to intentionally confuse people who watch it on more than one platform?
The UI is unintuitive, takes up way too much screen real estate and its confusing. Everytime I login I have to recheck the libraries i want to see and they donât show up on home. I canât possible expect my wife and older family members to use this. I donât even want to use it. It doesnât add anything at all, it only takes away previous functionality..
I donât understand. I mean, âIf it ainât broke. donât fix itâ. The new Plex UI on Roku is slow, un-intuitive and clumsy. Where is âContinue Watchingâ?. Is this yet another Cracker Barrel? Change for change sake? Has Plex gone Woke? Ploke? Please fix what wasnât broken and donât mess with a good thing.
This is the worst upgrade Ive ever seen and had to come here to see what happened and to chime in on it. I used to be able to adjust what I wanted to see/use (ie music) and now its so convoluted to get to itâs beyond annoying. I want the ability to hide what I dont use and see what I do. This has trashed it. Iâll be hearing about it from the family for sure and it sucks as Ive been a lifer since 2013 and this is my 2nd gripe only after the changes to IOS this year. Oh, and removing the ability to pull up lyrics would be an additional bonus gripe here. Id prefer the original version by far. My hand will be forced if changes like these keep going to migrate elsewhere.
The feedback is simple, stop making changes no one asks for and make changes people do ask for. This new UI is HORRIBLE its ugly, slow and takes up way too much room on the top of the screen while leaving massive unused amounts of space else where.
You want a different UI to give the perception that things are changing, but this only serves to show things are changing in the wrong direction.
