I think I started using Plex 12 years ago along with Plex Pass. The new Roku Plex app is enough make me jump ship. You geniuses obviously didn’t beta this with people who reflect the real user base, or you would never have embarrassed yourself like this. The decision makers on this one should be held accountable. I can only hope they feel the pain they have dumped onto the customers. As I write this the message counter for the thread has rolled several times, ha ha. “Build it and they will RUN” must be your theme.
Every single person involved in this update deserves to be fired and never allowed to work on a single line of code again in their life
@McWanke If a restaurant is famous for a specific dish, why remove it from the menu? Same thing can be said here. Plex on Roku was a usable and enjoyable experience. What you’ve done to the UI on Roku is an abomination! It’s simply terrible.
It certainly does seem as Plex cares nothing about the UI. Did some greenies get a job at Plex via nepatism and take over the Roku Plex UI dev team thinking “oh we know what we’re doing” and destroy a once great app?
Listen, we don’t care whatever the reason is. Sure the codebase this, blah blah blah. Fine. But when you mess around with a UI and make a system less usable, it’s also less enjoyable, less liked and people WILL leave you!
You built a fan base on consistency and value. You embarrassed yourself and it happens, but you CAN make it right. I am not saying to go back to the old UI, but this one HAS TO GO! The old one was usable and enjoyable. I can assure you that you’re really not listening to us.
I rarely post because I feel that well enough was well enough. Well, this is no longer well enough. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way but I can say I may be one out of a thousand others who won’t even bother to come here and instead switch from Plex to anything else where they do not screw around with the UI.
I know your team is working hard and that is commendable but we too work hard (maybe not at Plex but we too have jobs), come home, build our systems, build and manage our libraries and hope to enjoy them with a quality product such as Plex. You took that away from us.
Take this VERY seriously as we very much do!
this is a complete failure. plex was great because i could make it the way i wanted not the way you think i need it and or want it. nobody has ever asked for anything like what you have forced on all of us for absolutely no reason. if it aint broke….
rollback immediately
Clearly designed for a touch screen. Awful, awful GUI and severe lack of functionality. I regret my lifetime pass.
Kevin Wanke roll it back, or plex is dead in its current state, can’t wait for your fireside chat, and your answers on why you destroyed a once great product, I guess some people just want to watch the world burn.
Same issues my old server shows up in the library bar and no way to remove them, they just come back. If I go to the other page and “heart” one category from my current server, it does not stay on the bar. Nothing works and nothing is easy. Who developed this and why? I have removed and “unclaimed” my old server every where there is to do so. I have rebooted, logged out etc… Nothing works now I am typing this at 3am — at 10 pm after a terrible day I finally sat down to “continue watching” and BOOM.. all this crap. 5 hours later I still can’t watch anything
Either roll back the roku app or make it actually work, what the hell you cant even pause rewind move or do anything thru the roku tv app. I get the trying to make it look and feel more like a real streaming service im a bit peeved about it being not as nice as how it used to be but thats not the issue for me I can learn to live with it, but its actually broken fix the controls and im sure the more rational people will just live with the UI change, SO LONG AS ITS USABLE! FIX THE CODE YA DINGUS
New version is noticeably more sluggish than the prior versions. Can’t remove live TV, music playlists are hidden and cumbersome to find. At least allow pinning them to your “top menu”. Basic media controls are missing. 2010’s-era flat UX design with HUGE amounts of real estate occupied by unimportant spacing, large logos and art work that can’t be downscaled. One used to be able to view 2-3 lines worth of content on the Home Screen is now scaled down to 1 due to the banners taking up so much space. I don’t really know why Plex is on this path, it seems like a combination of sunk cost fallacy coupled with poor leadership direction but this is not going well.
I’ve been a paying Plex customer for many years and I’ve never posted here once. I haven’t had to, I’ve been completely happy with the app. Now I’m not, you had something rare in this day and age, an app that worked. It was customizable so all users could adjust it to their preferences. And it worked. Let me repeat that one more time, IT WORKED! Take all the advice your loyal customers are giving you here and offer a Classic version like you used to. All this does is just illustrates that you really don’t understand your customer base at all. I cut the cable cord 12 years ago, I don’t like paying monthly subscriptions to things I don’t use. I’d venture to guess a lot of people who find their way to Plex do it because they want to take control back of their media. Plex USED to be the perfect set up for people like me. I have no loyalty to Plex, I’m constantly getting rid of the subscription services that miss the mark. Netflix’s new UI is awful, I spent more time browsing than watching. It was no longer worth the trouble so I cancelled it. I don’t care if the developers worked hard, got amazing feedback initially, you’re hearing real world feedback now. This update is a ■■■■ show, there’s no other way to describe it. It’s broken, it doesn’t work, it’s laggy, clunky, it doesn’t work. If anyone at Plex actually reads this I have one question. Why should I keep sending you my money?
Edit: Plex thanks to your ineptitude I wouldn’t haven’t gotten mad, found this thread and learned about Jellyfin. I set up my new media server in about 20 minutes its running on my Roku now. Also, I looked back to see how long I’ve been a paying customer - October 12th, 2015. 10 years and $635 later I’m done.
I’ve never posted here, but as a lifetime plex user I have to. The new Roku Plex App is simply un-usable. I couldn’t even pause, fast-forward, re-wind the content once it was playing, let alone navigate to the episode of a show I was in the middle of watching. I would hope the feedback is taken serious and the update is rolled back TODAY.
How did this make it past Beta? core features like pause and play and navigation don’t work!! it’s Dead On Arrival! please revert it now!
Oh, dear lord, please roll back to the previous version before my wife gets back from her trip. This is barely usable and I’m patient - she’s going to lose her mind trying to figure out this hot mess.
Did you only use interns to test this? (They lied to you because they want to become full-time - it sucks). I’ve had to restart the app several times because it just becomes unresponsive. It’s not intuitive, it’s slow, your nested top menus are cumbersome, getting to the left menu is extremely difficult on most screens, and I’m sure there are more things I’m forgetting to mention - it’s so bad, I can’t think of a single thing I like about it… Everything about it is bad.
As a software developer, if I released something that was receiving this much backlash - this early into the release - I would have rolled it back already.
What were you thinking?
This update is pushing me harder toward others media apps. What a bad move to force me to go through “Recommended” every time I just want to browse my library as it doesn’t remember anymore which tab I’ve used. Stop forcing things like “Discover” and “Others ways to watch” or leave them as options. The pinned my favorites libraries to the side bar is also gone. This new “experience” is a nightmare. My reply is also posted here: New UI is an awful experience - #131 by dmCurator
Plex refuses to communicate back with it’s community and listen to us, so I say it’s time we say ■■■■ Plex and jump ship boys. We the consumers are what make companies their profits, and without us, they will die, so just cancel your subscription to Plex and force them to play ball or die off as a company
Absolutely terrible change, planning to switch services after ten years of using Plex exclusively.
PLEASE do not do that. The new version on ROKU has completely destroyed the ease of finding MY OWN FILES! We use this package to view our OWN files. No one wants a new NetFlix and advertising. We must be able to shuse the interface we use. this now one is TERRIBLE!
Care to defend this post from 20 days ago regarding issues with Roku app?
Did you all fix it, or just push the update and say ■■■■ it!?
You need to roll back the old UI this is impossible to use! I will switch to jellyfin if you dont fix it!
The new layout doesn’t make sense. All streaming services I have use a left-side navigation layout. There was no need to do something different than the standard. It just makes it confusing.
And let us unpin the streaming stuff again. I shouldn’t have to disable it server-wide and make it inaccessible to all of my profiles to keep it from showing up. Each one should be allowed to make that decision themselves.
