Request for SAVE button on PMS Setting changes

This morning I could not connect my Samsung TV Plex App to PMS.

 

It turned out that this was because the PMS myPlex setting Require authentication on local networks got set.

 

I do not recall setting it the night before but there is evidence in the PMS log file that it was me on a laptop on the local network changing this setting the previous night. The history record for Google Chrome does show me accessing the PMS settings web page just before it got changed (in history: http://192.168.0.16:32400/web/index.html#!/settings)

 

So obviously it was me. I did not realise that I did it. In fact access to PMS through Plex/Web from this laptop did not get blocked and continued to work even though I would have expected to lose my Plex/Web connection. So I did not realize I somehow ticked that option. Continued access from the laptop continued probably because authentication was obtained through pre-set myPlex login.

 

As it appears that we can easily make such an impacting change without realizing it, I think having a SAVE button to confirm changes would make the interface more secure

 

I now know how it happened - because it happened just now as I was writing this post ! When going to the settings page to highlight and copy the text Require authentication on local networks one can easily tick the box without realizing when moving the mouse/touchpad and clicking to highlight the text to copy!

 

So please let us have a SAVE button for any changes to take effect as it appears to be very easy to enable the local authentication option without realizing,

I see your point, but it works the other way, too. I forget to "save" edits I make to movie information often enough to irritate myself...

IMO, what would be best is consistency!

On the Plex Media Server tab:

  1. General - required
  2. MyPlex - not required
  3. Agents - not required
  4. Library - required
  5. Channels - required
  6. Network - required
  7. Transcoder - required
  8. Languages - required
  9. DLNA - required

Everything on the Plex/Web tab requires a save...

So, clearly MyPlex and Agents should conform with the majority!
