"Request" make EPG easier

I was having issues with the EPG updating, so I deleted the list of recordings to restore the EPG. Come to find out that some of the shows I had to record weren’t showing in the EPG. For example, 60 minutes, I was looking on Sunday to add it to the list. It wasn’t listed in “on tonight” or under “news”. But I found it later under “shows”.

I have always found the EPG to be unreliable for recordings, it just seems that more blame belongs on EPG info than Plex. I understand creating an EPG that doesn’t infringe on the copyright would be difficult. But can you at least create more options for breaking the list down to individual days?

It might be better to work with SD and use their EPG and create liveTV in Plex, in return you can help them create an smartv app for the HDHR.

@jeffddntdt Could your provide some information on where you are in the world, so we can try and see if there’s anything that can be done about the EPG?

Using Comcast on oregon.

Hmmm, that’s a little outside my scope, as I’ve only really had experience with Australian EPGs, but let me see what I can do.

I also am having problems in Oregon with the EPG.

Setup is OTA using HDHR tuner, Plex MC running on dedicated Windows 10 PC.

EPG for OPB/PBS local channel 29 is missing some episodes for some series and DVR is also mislabeling recorded episodes in some instances. There might be issues with other channels as well but my focus is OPB/PBS.

As things stand, upcoming episodes of a series that I am currently recording do not appear in the EPG. First two episodes of the series in question were recorded but were mislabeled as episodes 3 & 4. The actual episodes 3 & 4 do not appear in the EPG and I assume will not be recorded. Also have noticed this happening with Nova.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I ran into a similar issue a couple weeks ago. The solution I found was to delete the EPG store files located in …\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases and then force a refresh of the EPG. This fixed my issues with news programs, Nova, etc…

Thanks WCTschumy – your tip fixed my issues with EPG.

I also get confused that when the EPG data is complete, Plex will miss recording shows. I can’t find anything in the log files that would show that it even tried to record.

In my opinion, the EPG is a disaster. The EPG data is continually missing part, or in some cases, all of it’s data, and as a result, recordings are missed. It’s been an issue for months. Reliability of the data aside, the layout is not at all user-friendly. There needs to be an option for displaying the information in a grid format by channel and time. The category layout may work fine for some, but when you’re looking for things on a particular channel at a particular time and it’s not categorized where you think it should be, it’s nearly impossible to find it in order to setup the recording.

I’m also experiencing major EPG issues. I honestly kind of wonder if they’ve designed the guide the way they have in order to mask some of the shortcomings of the EPG data.
