Serious issues with EPG Data on Plex

Hi together

Software:

  • TVHeadend (working)
  • Plexheadend (Docker Container)
  • Plex Pass (1.9, Docker)

Provider:

  • IPTV imported to TVHeadend

Plex shows up the Channel without problems and I can select the one I need and map it to the build in EPG.

If scan has finished I noticed that some TV-Shows not showing up in EPG.
So for example if I click on “Tagesschau” (Newsshow, multiple on one day are aired) I can see some multiple entries.
Now I noticed that some of the airings are missed in this view. The daily main show isn’t showing up.
So I take a look on my iPhone at the main time and then I see, that the show is correctly named as “Tagesschau” as expected.
But… I can’t find it on the EPG. So anything must be wrong (maybe more in the logic of how plex shows the epg and not the epg source).
Show is also not in EPG if I select to add only this specific channel to Plex.

Any Ideas how I can solve this issue? Anyone has similar issues like this? What am I doing wrong? Or is it really just an issue in how plex is processing the epg?

Sounds more like the problem is the data being provided by Gracenote to Plex. You can report problems like this to forums.plex.tv/discussion/281569/reporting-gracenote-epg-data-issues

I will report it there… thanks.
I don’t think it is a input Data issue. I think it is a issue in the plex logic … plex does combine multiple “Tagesschau” to one “Show” but also from different channels. So the News-Show from Channel A and Channel B both call it “Tagesschau” but this is not really an issue. I can select it in the recording settings. What I don’t understand is, why? Because the info about the show is showing when I look at “Watch Now” at the time the show is aired.

Does it help to limit the channel in the advanced recording options to only the channel you want?

No… :frowning: Then it simply doesn’t record anything.
If I select “all” it Record all the shows which are in the Show “Tagesschau” listed, but not this one I want.

I can only record it by wait until it starts and record it manually and with settings “only this episode”.

Are you picking New and Repeat Airings or only New Airings?

Tried both. If I select to record all, only the shows plex are showing are recorded. The one that doesn’t appear on plex is also not recorded :frowning: Maybe I should make some screenshots to explain.

Screenshots would help. I’m a little confused at what you are asking.

Okay.. first I select the Show:

In the list (summary of “all” shows with this title from different channels) the Show at 07:30pm is not listed.

I select to record all of the shows:

and in the advanced settings I select only the channel I want and the time 07:30pm:

If I switch to the planned recording page, I can see that no shows are found that matches so plex simply says “no more broadcasts”:

Some things:

  • Recordings generally works
  • Recording on this Channel works
  • Recording of this show works (on other Channels and also on this on but only for the show at 01:00pm and 06:00pm)
  • If I switch to live state, I can see on this channel at 07:30pm the correct EPG information about the Show. So gernerally EPG info is right.
  • I have the same problem on a second channel too. I think it has something to do with the name.. because different shows are aired with the exactly same name 3 times a day. So I can only record the first on of the day.

Maybe now it is a litte bit more clear?

A little bit. So when you switch to Live at 7:30 pm and the correct EPG information about the show is present, give me a screen shot of what EPG is reporting. My guess is if the 7:30 pm show is not showing up under the Tagesschau listing, that it must be showing up under another show listing, otherwise you would not see the EPG info when you watched it via Live TV.

Is there another Tagesschau (Daily News) that the 7:30 pm show might be listed under? If you go to the Program Guide, and change the filtering to News -> All -> Episodes -> By Airing, can you find the 7:30 pm show?

Will try to take a screenshot today. :frowning: Have to wait to the next airing.. but the reason to record the show is, that I don’t have the time to watch it

If I try your suggestion:

The show directly before is called “SRF Börse” and begins at 07:25pm. As you can see, there is no “Tagesschau” until this one at 08:00pm which is one on another channel.

One thing looks interesting to me:
The show “Tagesschau” is aired on the wanted channel at 12:45-13:00, 17:40-18:00 and 19:30-19:55.
Plex only shows this one at 12:45.

The one that is called “Tagesschau Nacht” aired at 23:30-23:45 I can also find in plex.

So there must be an issue how Plex does summarize TV-Shows.

@elan Maybe you can check this from plex site?

One thing that is missing from the screenshots you posted is a screen shot of the Live TV info you are seeing when the 7:30 pm show is actually on.

Yes.. I know. But had to wait until next 07:30pm

Strange is.. now all shows renamed to “Tagesschau-Schlagzeilen” … also the planned recordings. I did nothing.

Next if I’m in live view:

Okey.. now it is 07:30pm and it shows up.. okay with the new name.. but you can see.. he should now record it.. because of the red recording label:

Edit: As you can see, playing is possible:
Edit2: Funny… the show is recording  → but only this one today.

Sounds like a guide data issue with Gracenote that has now been resolved after your last guide update last night.

@johnm_ColaSC Don’t think it is fixed because plex does not find the wanted show at 7:30pm today… tomorrow or any other day in the recording-overview.

I was going by your Edit2 of the post saying it was recording. Can you so the following:

  1. Go to Settings/Server and ensure that debug logging is turned on, verbose logging is turned off, and that include server token in logs is turned off.
  2. Stop Plex.
  3. Restart Plex
  4. Refresh the Program Guide
  5. When guide refresh is done wait about 5 minutes. Want to give Plex time after the guide refresh to run through looking for scheduled programs to record.
  6. Download logs from Settings/Server/Help and post the zip file of logs downloaded.

Don’t know if it will show anything, possibly not if the shows are different names. I’ll try to look over the logs over the next few days.
