Hi,
First of all - yes, I know this might sound like a strange thing to do. No, I’m not trying to mess with anyone, gain access to information or whatever.
I have a pretty uncommon username I would like to use for my plex account. It doesn’t really matter, it’s just vanity. Looks better than the one I have now. It also has a long history - which is why I might as well jump forward and say it’s the reason why I think I might have an account I’ve forgotten about from way back.
Is it possible to request a password reset by using just the username? I have a bunch of email addresses, most of which are aliases to the ones I don’t want to expose for spam. I’m 99,9% the username I’m thinking about is linked to one of these (or facebook, google or something) - but trying them all out seems like a hassle both for me and the system. By requesting a password reset I can just check which email it was sent to, reset the password, delete the old account, and change the username of my current. If it’s by some strange coincidence someone elses they might get a reset request, then either reset or ignore, and all’s well anyway. In worst case, just a tiny bit of harm done (I was tempted to say “no harm done”, but…I think I would find it funny to argue with that if someone else said it and I was in the right mood, so…
). If possible, I could contact support and just give them a list of the most likely emails used if the account was mine and they could say either “yes”, “mmmmm…no…” or whatever, but I believe they would probably concur that reset is the easiest option for everyone (unless it’s not my username and the current owner is paranoid).
In any case - is there any way to reset by username, or does anyone know of any other way of achieving this? If not, I’ll just leave it. It’s not worth spending a whole lot of energy on. I just miss “my” username ![]()
