Updating the PMS server could be better/faster for PlexPass users. Currently we have to go to the website to download the latest release. I would like to see that an update is available when logon to my computer and be able to download it instantly within the software.
Currently I subscribe to the release forum to know when updates are available and have the PlexPass download page bookmarked.
It would be even better if updates could be automatically installed as part of the daily service feature.
That thread is just about auto updates. I see more value in my post since I’m also suggesting to be able to update without going to the website. This can already be done for non plexpass users.

And this post is not about?
Updates on a server should happen only when the server owner knows what he is doing, what the update brings and at the time he thinks its convenient for him and the users connected to the server.
I have removed the auto update suggestion from my original post. I still would like the ability to see new updates available and be able to update (if desired) directly from the PMS software.

Search for and download Plex Media Server updates automatically
This can be found within server - general - advanced. It popped up in the last release? I had it switched on but it didn't download or detect the version released this morning?

it looks like preparatory work for future functionality which is yet to be announced

Thank you very much for the information. I hadn't noticed this change before.
When I went to see I found that it was already enabled and set to use the "stable" channel.
Though I'm in favor of this feature I consider a no-go to set it by default to auto update without asking explicitly for permission. I don't recall that I ever gave it.

I give this a very big minus!
Fully agree with you. Also it is very inappropriate calling it 'stable' as we know very well how unstable 0.9.9.14 is for users that make use of the iTunes Channel !
Edit: Thinking about it - we have no right to complain about this as the user is given the choice whether to make use of this future feature or not.
My compliant doesn't go to the feature itself. It's very useful to so many users but I didn't like at all seeing it enabled by default (at least so it looks to me).
