Resetting Synology DSM7 and reinstalling PMS afterwards - will PMS settings just restore when I restore PlexMediaServer folder?

Hi,
I am about to reset my Synology DS918+ that has been running DSM 7 Update 3 along with the latest version of Plex Media Server. I have backups of the PlexMediaServer folder via HyperBackup as well as my Media folders on external drives. The reasons for the reset are unrelated to PMS; I forgot to turn on Data Checksum for Advanced Data Protection for the Media share and also plan to recreate NAS with SHR2 so I have to start from scratch and restore data.

My question is whether all my PMS settings will be as previously as long as I restore the PlexMediaServer folder contents before reinstalling PMS? Logically, I expect that to be the case, but want to make sure before I begin.

Thanks - Hopefully @ChuckPa will see this and respond.

As long as you use HyperBackup to have it make a backup of PlexMediaServer shared folder to a removable disk (something not being reset) you’ll be fine.

By doing this

  1. Reload your media
  2. Reinstall PMS
  3. Restore the state of PMS from the backup

It will come back as if nothing changed with excepting of the media folder permissions which you’ll need to add again

@ChuckPa thank you for confirming this!

@ChuckPa - FYI, it went well, although I was able to skip step 3 because I restored all data in an earlier step. Thank you for your help.
