[RESOLVED] Live TV & DVR - Guide data for this DVR will no longer be updated after January 1, 2021

Greetings. After upgrading to 1.21.1.3795 earlier this week, I noticed the following message being displayed in the DVR Schedule and the Live TV & DVR settings pages.

I reviewed the Announcements page and searched the Live TV & DVR posts and could not find any information about why this is happening.

Can anyone point me to the relevant release notes for what is happening?

You must have forum announcements or notifications turned off. It is showing right under the Plex banner bar.

whoops it changed as I copied it… use OttoKerner’s.

See Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

Thanks for the guidance. I had been searching using the terms of the message, and did not come across that post. It may have been helpful to include a link to the post above in the message that is being presented to users in the Plex/Web interface.

Just FYI, the text @OttoKerner included: “Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for” is a link to the post he was referencing.

HOLY COW. I never saw this either! And I recently asked for it and was told Gracenote was coming. And I haven’t seen the banner that dougie pasted in. Wow. folks are going to go nuts when recordings stop unless they know about this in advance! (and even then)

So it seems it will delete your recording schedule. Does anyone know a way to export and then import this?

Unfortunately not. According to the post, you will need to manually re-create your entire DVR line-up.

It won’t. They will stay visible. The recording schedules just won’t find anything to record anymore.
You can delete them one by one and recreate them immediately with the same parameters.

+1 on this. I came here looking for the same thing…and the banner in the forum does not reference the topic at hand.

Suggest putting a link in the warning banner within Plex to that post, or editing this forum banner to be relevant to the warning.

Seems some of my re-created schedules are showing up in the schedule but some are not (ie Simpsons)

Nevermind… It’s working just fine with the New-Old Gracenote. The shows in question were repeats.

Came here as I was also surprised to see this banner message this morning and no, I did not catch the announcement about this either so I’ll need to look at my forum notification settings.

Can someone please elaborate more on re-creating the scheduled recordings (series recordings) after we delete and re-setup the DVR?. There seems to be conflicting results between the announcement and members of the community reporting their experiences. This is honestly unacceptable, I’m not a developer, I don’t know what went on the room where these things were decided, but the least you could do is build an import/export tool, or find some way to make this easier. I have a ton of series schedules and frankly right now is not the time for me to spend re-creating these, especially when many may not even show up because they’re not going to be in the first 14 day set of guide data.

Anyone from Plex? (CC: @elan @OttoKerner @cire12 ) Please advise…

Thanks!

Except you can’t.

One can schedule a recording only if the show is in the guide. This being Christmas time during COVID, primetime network shows aren’t there. Hence the need to put a note on your calendar, “check guide and re-schedule recordings”.

Insane.

Is the ultimate goal just to kill OTA TV by making it so difficult to use that people just give up? My goodness, Plex. Get it together.

Earlier this year I bought a NAS, got a lifetime Plex Pass, got rid of my Tivos, and started using Plex DVR. So far it hasn’t turned out to be my wisest move… now we basically just avoid OTA/DVR TV whenever we can because the Plex live TV/DVR experience is so buggy and annoying.

And now I have to manually recreate my entire DVR list by 12/31?? No migration tool or anything? This will take me hours, which I don’t have right now. You’ve got to be kidding me!

Can I just say that this is another example of why people stop using plex and go to other platforms. Making your users manually recreate years of effort because of laziness on the code side to transition? I write code, and I always keep the users in mind when I make any changes that impact UI or UX. It is not that hard to make lookup tables or reference flags to transition services. I have 8 tuners constantly recording movies and TV shows 24/7 to build my library. To recreate all of my recordings is going to take a lot of effort, and I am contemplating going back to KODI.

is there any way to export a list of “scheduled recordings” otherwise their “simple as that” crack … will take a month … I have 6 tuners that record all day … and shows like ABC Thursday lineup won’t be back until March, etc… so with one week notice I have to recreate years of scheduled recordings with preferences… do the programmers/coders actually use their product

I begged them to implement keyphrase-based recording before doing the switch. But time schedule obviously had not been our friend here…

I still hope that that new feature will be presented shortly… it would make recreating DVR schedules much easier.

I kept Plex for the video library (movies and TV) but moved to Jellyfin for live TV/DVR months ago since Plex developers can’t seem to get it to work properly on Fire Stick 4K devices despite the multiple posts and logs sent by many users.

I get your frustration, but KODI kinda sucks when it comes to remote access.

I am really trying to convert to Plex for OTA recording but it really seems to me like the DVR is an afterthought. Lots of expected things that were in the first DVR’s in back in 1999. Keyword recordings, Pictures on Pause, way to tell what recordings were actually happening (if only recording new, plex shows you are recording it even if you are not) Way to see original air date on a show in the guide, etc. so much missing. Its no wonder I don’t see talk of anyone moving to plex on the SageTV forum. I am trying to get around the missing pieces, but the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) is not so good. -Bill
