So, I noticed that I have my Remote Access working superbly. BUT, whenever there is an Plex Server Update, the Private IP and Public IP addresses are not green anymore. However, it says “Fully accessible outside your network” in green. But, when I try an outside connection, they are connecting indirectly. I have to close down my Plex Server, restart my Modem, then restart the Plex Server and when I check the Remote Access, it’s fine again. Why does it do this?
Guessing - you don’t have a DHCP reservation in the router and the local IP changed? You didn’t forward a port in the router and activate it on the Remote Access page via ‘Manually Specified Public Port’?
Hi JuiceWSA!! Thank you for the quick response. No, I don’t have a DHCP reservation. I didn’t forward a port in the router and activated it on the remote access page via Manually Specified Public Port.
I’ve been watching my IP Address on my computer after restarting my modem and oddly, the IP Address never changes, nor the Port. I’m wondering if my modem is giving me a Static IP even though my computer is set to DHCP Dynamic.
I think it’s safe to set my computer to static IP and set the port to the one issued in Plex. What do you think?
Under the normal automatic setup, Plex uses UPNP to basically tell your router to automatically route traffic to the server.
The manual setting is there if you plan to manually forward the port in the router to your Plex server. This is useful in cases where your router doesn’t have UPNP, you have it disabled, or you have issues with it.
Since that last case applies, you should try forwarding the port in your firewall per the manual setup instructions posted above.
Also, if you are using the manual setting, I wonder if this prevents the UPNP method from working right, and that’s why you are seeing issues?
