I’m running PMS on a Shield TV 2019 Pro with adopted storage containing the Plex app and data.
I recently installed an app called VirtualHere USB Server and it immediately caused issues on the shield. I uninstalled it but ever since then, the usb ports appear to be randomly going to sleep or disconnecting. I can’t seem to resolve the issue so may have to reset the shield as otherwise it’s constant reboots and the ports don’t even always reconnect afterwards.
Is there any way I can avoid setting up the PMS and libraries from scratch? I have seen various help pages on this topic but I can’t say I’ve ever felt assured there’s any kind of foolproof process for this.
I would much prefer not to reset - if anyone has any idea how I can fix the issue I’d be grateful. Nvidia support have only been able to suggest a reset.
Here is what I do whenever I want to maintain the PMS data:
Copy the necessary meta folders as outlined in the support article to a back up location.
Reset Shield.
Install PMS on internal location first.
Move install to external location as outlined in relevant support article.
Stop PMS, replace the new install files with the previous install files.
Restart Shield, restart PMS.
I’m assuming some basic knowledge already exists in terms of migration of PMS install to new machine here, but it works for me, my custom meta, playlists and collections are maintained. Would also suggest a sync of play history to Plex servers to ensure that is maintained and transfered to the new installation as well. Good luck James!
What support article are you revering to? Do you have a link and do these instructions in theory allow migrating a plex database to a new Nvidia Shield if I wanted to upgrade from my current 2017 pro?
