Hello community!
I am using Plex Media Server on Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) since some months. The setup worked well. I only ran into a couple of problems, when updating Plex Player and / or Plex Server. The last update just crashed my Plex Media Server completely.
As an exemplary IT-guy I made a backup of my (huge) library every month. The problem is, that I cannot restore the library.
Setup:
- Plex Media Server is running on Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019)
- library was stored on an external SSD via USB 3.0 external hard-drive-bay
- network ist configured as static IP
How I did the backup:
- I did a backup of the whole “…\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server” folder
- I always stopped the server via settings in Plex Media Player, then shut down the Shield, unplugged the SSD, plugged it into my computer and made a split Zip-Archive of all the content of SSD (including path mentioned above) → then plugged the devices into the Shield, startet Shield, etc. … worked well all the time
What happened:
- Update of Plex Media Server
- Update of Plex Player
- Plex didn’t start. Restart of Shield was not helping. In the Plex Settings there was no entry under “Plex Media Server”.
No matter what I did (restarting, log out - log in, etc.), there was no entry shown in the settings. (screenshot: https://ibb.co/BzQ1RjG) - Then I thought “Ok, I’ve got a backup! Just reinstall Server and Player”
- Said, Done.
- Starting Plex, logged in, got asked if I want to setup the Server, said yes.
- Everything was running, so shut down Server via settings, then shut down Shield
- Restored backup on the original path
- Started Shield, opened Plex after some hours (thought I give the device some time…)
- Problem described in 3 (screenshot: https://ibb.co/BzQ1RjG) occured again
Ok, then I tried everything in the other way: First moved the media library to the external devices, stopped the server, restored the backup, powered everything up. Result: See 3) and 10). Plex Server icons where not even shown in Plex settings.
So then I tried some variations of clearing caches, reinstalling and at the end (which was 4 hours ago) I just resetted my whole shield to factory settings, installed everything, activated the server, moved the server metadata to the external devices, overwrote it with the backup aaaannnnnnddddd… didn’t work.
So I don’t know what to do now. I can’t even sleep, because there ist SO MUCH EFFORT in my library with sorting and all that stuff… loosing my library would be a catastrophe…
My metadata library has a size of > 150 GB with all the thumbnails, etc.
Can someone tell me how to restore a backup of the metadata on Nvidia Shield TV Pro on external harddrive / SSD???
Why is the Plex Server not shown in the settings? This also happend sometimes before. Then I normally just restarted the shield and then everything was fine.
If you need some other information just ask. Damn, I even would buy you a flight ticket to germany, if you could help me crying and laughing
