Nvidia Shield server not working \ Missing options from Plex settings

After a year of no issues, today I discovered that my Plex server was no longer working. When I try to access it I’m told that it’s “currently unavailable”. All of the software for both my PC and Nvidia Shield are up to date. I took the external hard drive that contains all my media and checked to make sure that it was ok, which it was. After checking to make sure my internet connections were ok I rebooted anything that I could, but this also didn’t fix anything. Finally I went into the options for Plex on my Nvidia Shield and realized that some were missing. As you can see in this picture below, the option to turn on / off my server and the storage location are both gone.

After this I did a bit of looking around and came across this Reddit post that seemed to have a similar issue. In the comments section there were a lot of people talking about clearing the cache / deleting the data for the Plex Media Server app, but many of them were suggesting to make backups before hand. I haven’t tried this step because I’m not quite sure how to go about making a backup.

This support page suggests that I should find something in either of these two directories:

/Internal/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/
/[removable drive name]/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/

Unfortunately there are no files within either of these. In this support page they suggest that I should be looking for a “preferences.xml” file, but they don’t provide me a directory to check and I’ve yet to find this file on my own.

I have found some files within the below directory, but I’m not sure if they’re the correct ones that I need to backup since it isn’t the same directory as above. Here is an example of one of the files within this directory: “com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db2022-01-04”.

/Internal/Plex Media Server/Database Backups

In the end, I’m not even sure if any of this will help me. I’ve seen a lot of posts on here with people begging the writer to add more information so I’ve tried to add everything that I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to lose the work that I’ve put into my server.

Is this related to your upgrade to the Shield Experience upgrade 9?
There seems to have been a number of issues which are already being discussed in a number of other threads (incl. workarounds/fixes).

As much as I hate to say it I’m honestly not sure. I did upgrade my Nvidia Shield today so that may have been the case. I’ll check this out, thank you very much for sharing it.

Edit: After looking at it this seems very plausible. I’ll continue to follow this thread and try out their solutions thank you again for sharing. In the meantime, are there any files that I should be trying to backup? As I said above, I checked the directories for the files that the support pages suggested but I can’t seem to find them.

Hi there ,
Unfortunately I have the same problem since I made the new update of the Nvidia shield, I then tried to delete everything (apps and media server) and also reinstalled everything, then started a new server but unfortunately the media server is not started, there is only the loading screen that he is trying to restart the server. now i don’t know what to do.

I tried several workarounds , permissions etc , but my plex server do not recognize my nvidea shield external drive content where is located all my media.
