Restoring Backup - Raspberry Pi OS

I have a Raspberry Pi 4, running Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye. I have Plex server installed and updated to the latest version. I want to get Plex up and running on a fresh OS install, running Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm. Am I correct in thinking that the process is this:

Backuop

  1. Stop plexmediaserver from running
  2. Copying the two database files to a new directory, for example on an external drive

Restore

  1. Fresh OS install
  2. Install plexmediaserver
  3. Stop plexmediaserver running
  4. Copy the two backed-up files into the correct directory
  5. Start the server running again

Is there anything that I have missed? During the restore process, should I be logging into Plex before restoring the database? Should I ‘claim’ the server before restoring the database?

If you’re wanting the new server instance to take the place of the old
then don’t forget to take Preferences.xml with you (it has the server ID numbers)

Also, don’t forget to ensure the file ownership is correct (plex:plex – or pi:pi ?? )

It was a bit of a struggle for me when I went to bookworm, the way there wasn’t clear consensus about simple tasks like assigning a static IP, WPA3, pointing the domain name resolver at my Pihole, logging, boot files, etc. I didn’t expect to have to apt install as many basic utilities to have the usual toolbag handy. You might want to test a wide range of tasks in advance of time spent on PMS if you’re new to that OS. good luck!
