Resume playback not working for samsung tv client

Hi,

Same issue here - I have two TV’s (older Samsung TVs) which happened recently after updating the server version - resume seems to work intermittently though for me. I have just tried upgrading to 1.15.4.993 - same issue.

Hi Darcilcious,

The code is available (it’s HTML + JavaScript) but it appears the main piece of the code (plex.min.js) has been obfuscated.

I understand Plex have the unobfuscated code also, and it appears to contain GPL (Not LGPL) libraries so it really should be made available.

Failing that, if you can provide detail on the bug, if it’s minor enough with de-obfuscation tools it shouldn’t be too hard to hack the app to fix the resume issue and then side-loading can be used to update it on people’s TVs.

I have been asking @Orca several times, he have no intention to share the sources with anyone, so not possible to take it over and continue to support this platform. Unfortunately. :frowning:

Well since the application seems to have GPL code in it - legally unobfuscated source should be provided.

Come on Plex you guys can do better than this. I realize the app was third party developed but get someone on it, provide a server-side fix, or bring back @Orca. This app is critical to a lot of people.

Hi everyone. I’ve been using Plex for many years on two smart TVs too, and like a lot of people I was quite surprised when I learned that the TV app was not actually an official Plex one at all.

I have also experienced this resume issue (among others, previously) so decided to look into alternatives at last. Today I received a Roku Express which I bought on Ebay. It was only £21 and seems to be great. I gather the app for this actually is an official Plex one (i.e. built and supported by them).

It seems faster, more slick, and another advantage I notice is it’s “on all the time”, so you just turn the TV on and it picks up the HDMI1 input immediately and there’s your Plex. So there is no launching the Smart Hub and app, “Preparing TV” etc.

As I say, only just started using it, but seems to be good. At £21 it seems to be a good solution for this latest issue - I might buy one for our other TV too. You might all know this already but they have a controller app for your phone too. The only issue is you still need the TV remote for controlling volume!

the issue is not with the samsung app. it is something plex server changed. so it is happening on your end. i changed nothing but updating the server. and now it no longer resumes.

exactly. the issue came up for me when i updated the server. which was the only change i made at all. because i have dedicated computer so i know nothing changed there either.

same thing. issue came from plex server update.

Just adding another vote for having the same problem. Its a shame that so many Plex Pass Members (including myself) as no formal solution not even a timeline from PLEX Guys! like many others in the trail; using plex for Years now and the Server Upgrade just killed on two of the TVs then have done a forceful downgrade; till can hear something back from the Plex Team.

I’m going to going to give it another 7 days, then I’ll make a GPL-Violation notification.

Issue also occurs on my samsung smart tv. Please Plex developers, help us out!

Same here om Samsung Evolution kit sek-2500.

So I’ve spoken to the developer of the GPL2 code contained within the Samsung Plex App - he has never sub-licensed it - so there is a GPL2 license violation here by not provided unobtuscated source code

At least we will all know who to blame (abedegno) when Samsung removes the app and leaves us with nothing.

I have a Samsung UN65H7150 smart TV and am currently up to date (Plex Version 1.15.4.993) and have been running Plex for years on this TV. Just recently I have not been able to resume play on the TV, all it does is start the program be it TV show or movie from the beginning. However, when using Plex on my desktop or Sony Xperia XA1 phone the programs start from where you last left off. I can see this has become a problem with many people concerning recent updates to Plex. Should we role back our version of Plex and not keep it up date or should we hope the developers come through with a fix.

Please note for some reason my tv is not able to side load solutions directly onto the TV. I would need to have a fix included in a Plex up date.

Downgrading to Plex Media Server version 1.15.2.793 has fixed the problem for me, it was driving me potty as it would work on the amazon stick but not the Samsung. As I only have to resume occasionally, it was only when I found this forum it confirmed it was the issue with the Samsung client and newer versions of the Plex server at fault. Hoping that Plex will address this soon as I have 3 Samsung tv’s dotted around the house so wont be updating the server until they do.

Adding my vote here as well. Cannot resume on my 2014 Samsung TV anymore. I hoping for a fix!

More than just Samsung TVs affected - using Rasplex 1.8.0.148 with Plex 1.15.4.993 on dedicated NUC box had same problem with resume not working. Rebuilt pi to no avail, but went back to Plex 1.15.1.791 and resume works again

Having the same problem on my Samsung TV 40H5500 model,
Was working perfectly - then one day all shows in mid playback started showing from the beginning…
Very frustrating …
