Rewind / Back button doesn't work on NVIDIA Shield AndroidTV Plex Client

This has been happening for some time now, but seems to be getting worse. I used to only notice it when playing back something recorded from OTA with the DVR feature. Trying to fast forward to skip commercials, I’d go to far and hit the back button on the remote, but instead of going back it would keep on going forward.

Now I’m noticing that it happens on downloaded videos as well. Searching the forums it seems like this is a relatively longstanding problem.
