[ShieldTV] Plex crashes when skipping backwards

For the past few months Plex crashes when “skipping backwards” (after playing for a while). At first it just freezes with a loading circle, before finally crashing back to the UI “as if it has just completed playing the movie/TV show” (only the previous media cover is displayed, with the “restart” symbol on it.) Other times, it crashes Plex completely back to the main Shield home screen. Still other times it crashes the shield completely (and usually gets stuck on the Android boot screen and requires unplugging the device to restart).

I just tried updating to the latest FreeNAS port hoping it was fixed, but it just happened again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Server Version#:1.29.0.6319
Player Version#:9.9.0.35519 (0c60b84b) (FreeNAS)

I get this on both fast-forward and rewind. Both on the Shield and Fire TV

Most frequently I get the spinning wheel and have to exit the video and resume

I get the same where it stops like the movie has completed also

Rarely it will crash back to the shield home screen

I have not had it crash the Shield itself

For a long time I thought it was something to do with my server capabilities, device or network, but I switched to HTPC and now I get none of those issues (it’s the app)

It’s one of the main reasons why I switched. This has been happening for a long time and I lost hope it would ever get fixed

For some reason I can’t post in the other thread, but I saw this https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/498676/shield-experience-upgrade-91-hotfix-image/ several days ago, and it specifically mentions:

Resolves FFWD RWD crashing Plex Playback

These two hotfixes are currently in (public) testing and should be released as stable soon.

I’m thinking that fix might solve his complete crash problem but not the spinning wheel or getting kicked out of the video

Since that also happens on my Fire TV I’m afraid it might still be an app issue

If I’m wrong, I won’t complain. Any progress is good

That’s good info though, thanks VBB

I agree. I was surprised to see this in the list of fixes, because I was under the impression that the bug also applied to other (Android-based) devices.
