Attempting to rewind (10 sec) near the end of a TV episode or movie causes the ExoPlayer v2 to freeze on SHIELD Android TV and prevents any of the video controls from working. To reproduce error:
Play TV episode or movie to location just before closing credits start
Click the left button on the Shield Remote (or receiver remote if CEC is supported)
Note that instead of rewinding 10 secs, video freezes.
Note that Pause/Resume does not function after video freezes. State of controls update as appropriate, but video does not resume.
In order to recover, you have to restart video from beginning, then fast-forward to a few minutes before the closing credits start.
I’ve attached logs and info file for an item that exhibits the problem. In this particular case, he total duration is 24:49. After restarting and fast-forwarding to 22:21, hitting the back button rewinds 10 sec successfully. However, attempting to rewind at 23.31 causes the video to freeze. It doesn’t appear to matter what video codec is playing. The attached is for a MPEG2VIDEO, but it also occurs for H264.
This is still an issue with the latest Android TV version (7.5.0.6642). This is especially an issue for 1/2 hour TV episodes since the issue occurs before the closing credits begin.
Having the same issue. There are a lot of threads about this and other common android tv issues (e.g. having to attempt playback multiple times before it plays, horizontal scroll crash, etc.) that have been outstanding for months. I made a feature request for a bug tracker so it’s easier for us to see what is known and being worked on rather than creating a bunch of threads that don’t appear to be getting resolved. Guess it could also help if they need more logs for an issue.
The developers rarely acknowledge or respond to this beta forum. What’s the point in having a beta testing group if they’re not going to acknowledge us. Pointless.
Yes. This just happened to me (3) times this week. Really frustrating. As after it freezes and you back out of it, you have to start the files from the beginning and FF all the way back to a few minutes from the end. Perhaps it is not happening to you b/c you are FF towards the end right away and not playing it to that point? Let us know what we can do to help troubleshoot.
