I’ve been testing using Live TV on the Plex preview channel for about 2 weeks. I have a HDHomeRun and a pretty decent server processing the transcoding. We have been watching the World Series on the Roku and have found that after about 30-60 mins, the playback will stop and the screen will go black and the buffering notice at the bottom of the screen will hang at 34%. At this point, I can log into the server and memory and processor usage seems normal - not seeing anything being maxed out. I then just restart the Plex service and then go back into the app on the Roku and can start playing the show again. The workaround isn’t terrible, but really just wanted to pass it on as a potential issue. Also wanted to know if anyone else is seeing the issue.
+1. I saw the very same last night, also watching the World Series live on a Roku Stick. HDHomeRun as well. For me, the issue showed up after only about ten minutes of viewing, however. Black screen at 35%, and eventually live TV would crash. Picture quality was also very grainy. Picture quality was high using the HDHomeRun program directly on the server - and no crashes.
I had some problems that are close to these, either on Roku or on the web player, sometimes for no reason, it hangs and the plex server stop working, I have to manually reset the service to reconnect.
Btw. Using TvHeadEnd and tvhProxy on an IPTV source with xmltv epg.
…I should mention that live TV works on my Android phone across our LAN like a champ. OTH, Live TV through web player on a Mac on the LAN is unwatchable. Across the WAN, live TV is entirely acceptable on my Win10 PC at the office (web player).
Hardware decoding may have been the culprit for me. Ever since disabling, I’ve had no trouble with live TV.

Having the same issue. I have hd homerun quatro(4 tuners) and powerful server with streaming on roku client. Stream hangs and goes blank for a long time. Then switching channels is bit of pain, takes too long to load; 50% of the times. Also noticed that I get error messages switching channels with error “cant load Live TV” on roku or browser.
I have mine all set up and ready but on the Roku when I select program guide it just jumps back to the main Roku menu. No live tv.
Had the same hanging issue - disabling hardware acceleration fixed it. Thanks for the post @fluxwrap
