I’m confused when you mention something like this. The callout of not having the ABC nav available. Don’t you have a listing of what is available in the old app and isn’t in the new one?
Why should we have to “call out” a missing feature?! Don’t you have a testing team comparing the old app to the new one and indicating what features are missing? Or did you completely fire your QA team? Maybe get rid of some executives and get people hired that actually do the grunt work!
I want to listen to my music on my TV’s and/or soundbar via my Roku devices around the house. I don’t listen to music on my phone. And I don’t want to cast from my phone. That just adds another device into the mix. I want to simply use 1 app. If Plex doesn’t add that option back, I will have to switch to Jellyfin to get back what I have lost with Plex.
@ McWanke, Can you please update us on when we can expect to see the [DVR Schedule] with [Recording Priority] and [Recording Options] in the new UI (Roku and iOS).
In trying to replicate it today, that left panel shows different results for both movies and tv shows now. When it does load “mark season as watched” doesn’t show for TV shows or movies anymore so… dunno what changed between then and now but maybe something cached funny or an API function adjusted.
Today though that side panel for “MORE” is very very slow to load. If that’s a beneficial observation or not depends on how that panel works.
Based on previous requests for PlexAmp for TV in the PlexAmp forums, a music app for TV is very unlikely. Plex folks point to using the headless Plexamp setup as the alternative. There are definite advantages to a headless Plexamp (like a Pi) but they’re more audiophile centric than convenience. “Casting” is still the expectation there it seems (for good or ill); that’s what I do with my Sonos system. Jellyfin does support music but not all their TV apps handle it or handle it well. I think Emby does a better job there if you’re looking at alternatives. There’s also other dedicated audio options like Roon and such. Not defending Plex’s choice - a TV app would benefit me too - but just giving some alternatives for you and maybe others with similar situation.
I was going to go along with the rest of you fellow forum users and share my list but the more and more I’ve read some of everyone else’s statements, it made me think…
Why are we contributing our time and sanity testing this out when THEY (Plex Inc) are the ones who WANT/DECIDED this without any initial input from the very start and now, it’s like we’re being pawned to do their actual job. It’s come to my attention that they have no UX UI talent and are asking us what needs to be changed. Why? This product is no longer serving OUR purposes anymore. Just look at the blatant LIE below -
“to bring EVERYTHING you love into ONE seamless interface—from YOUR personal media”
To add insult to injury, as you pointed out below… and rightfully so, why are we acting as a conduit/replacement for QA / QC for Plex’s design teams mistakes that are showing that they may have hired the most unqualified people. We shouldn’t be doing ANY of this when the apps are no longer ours. We’re doing the paid work that someone/a team of REAL UX / UI DESIGNERS should be doing. Are any of us getting paid? What do we get out of this chaos? We just had our PHOTOS and MUSIC / Audio libraries gutted from the main product.
I still see the alphabet along the side and for me, browsing by letter is a bit snappier so I was testing it a bunch. It’s very close to the edge though so maybe the overscan on your TV is covering it up?
I’ve had a few display things act funny and then act differently after restarting the app from the * menu on Roku Home Screen. For example, my profile icon disappeared - making the left hand “gap” of content even more obvious - until I did that restart app command.
Edit:
I don’t disagree. I’ve made my own complaints about how Plex chooses when and how they’ll “appreciate the community”. I’ve got bug reports that went unanswered and voiced concerns and now suddenly “we’re paying attention”?
I’m helping here because they are at least paying attention so if I can get something fixed to work more like how I’d like it to work then maybe I can have some influence. When I “helped” with the previous UI overhaul a few items I spoke up about got addressed… I don’t know if they would have if I didn’t so… we’ll see.
The Roku devs have been around for a bit and despite my occasional complaints, when they do interact with the community they are generally appreciative and constructive… which isn’t always the case with Plex reps.
I’ll take the spurious “community appreciation” over no input at all for now. I have other options in Jellyfin and Emby and Infuse and Kodi if it doesn’t work out.
Just went through this in a project meeting and it is a bug. The ticket for this will be worked on soon and we will get it addressed prior to public release.
I saw a similar “jumping element” happen when navigating Seasons presented in the “Recently Added” row for TV shows. If a season there has “tall” art for the show title it works fine but if it has “short” art for the title it jumps when you click on it to go to the details screen.
An example if you wanna create a test was Murderbot. When I selected the Season listing for that show from the Recently Added row on Home Screen, the Title art jumped up.
Essentially seems like the alignment is set to bottom in Home Screen but Top in detail. If that makes sense? Seems like it might be related.
Upon re-reading this interaction back I realized that I did not provide a great answer and, ultimately, it was also a lazy answer as I did not validate my response through testing and review of open issues in the project first like I normally try and do. My apologies here. We absolutely have visibility between the old and new experiences. However, we also do beta and testing releases to gather feedback since we will not be able to recreate all of the scenarios and use cases that everyone that uses the app can create.
For the ABC “jump nav” on the right side of a library browse screen we just reviewed that specific item on a project call. We both created a ticket to take a look at this and double check its function but also called out that it should exist in the current preview. I was able to test on my setup and see the ABC lettering and use it successfully.
We’re not here to bash you. It looks as though you are very much one of the good ones, and believe me, I’ve read your responses, and you aren’t who we are talking about. We were told to keep it civil, and I will. We just need you as an employee to understand how Plex corporate has now dramatically ruined many people’s, your customer base’s lives, and this wasn’t the first time a specific individual may have had a hand in this, yet he remains.
We must have a statement from the people above you with no more sugar coating and have a valid answer. No marketing speak. The Plex ecosystem has been disrupted, and MILLIONS of users have been affected by the upper management’s decisions. This is NOT about you personally, nor should you be pelted with unnecessary harmful comments. It’s rather the sheer lack of accountability from above.
They know we aren’t happy.

Thanks for suggesting overscan might be the problem. I dug into my TV settings and managed to fix this. So I now have alphabetical choices at the far right. However, I never had the problem before!
I did check and there are playlists/collections attached to individual folders. But I still think there is a good case for them being on the Homepage. In some ways that is why I set them up, so I didn’t have to go into individual folders to find them.
I literally just came to this thread after testing the preview, and being frustrated that playlists are now buried inside the library itself. My use case: Make sure playlists are included on the left panel. Then go to the home page, and they’re just a click or two down the page. Now it’s a whole routine of moving to the libraries page, changing the section, tracking down the library, and going to the playlists.
One related note: One of the reasons I now use playlists is because of how Plex has maligned the “Shuffle” feature on TV shows. If you go to a TV show homepage, “shuffle” used to be right in the button list. It’s now removed to the ellipses menu. However, very aggravatingly, when you click on it, the ellipsis menu has literally one option: just the shuffle button. An extra click for no reason. It’s quite insulting, and the last time I brought up how you’re clicking an extra menu for one option, the Plex dev told me nobody else cared, and to basically get bent.
Anyway, if you’re working on UI improvements, perhaps include the concept that “if the ellipsis menu only goes to one item, replace that menu button with a button for that item instead.”
(I used to be regularly active in these forums but Plex devs pushed me away with that attitude, and based on the people I see in the other product forums, I’m guessing I’m not alone.)
