Roku Subtitles Not Working with Roku Captions Mode Turned On

I had this issue before and needed to enable Roku Captions Mode. I have turned them on and off on the Roku and in Plex but get the same result. I use the same settings in the Web client and the subtitles function without issue.

Just did some spot checking here, and noticed a possible regression when burn subtitles is enabled. Can you confirm you have that enabled? if so we are tracking the same bug.

Thank you for the quick response. Burn Subtitles was set to Automatic. I tried it set to Always and the subtitles work correctly. I set it to Only Image Formats and they do not work.

We do have a possible issue identified that will affect persisting subtitle when they have to be burned, either by that preference or if the subtitles are incompatible. We’ll have that fixed in the next update.

The issue you are describing though sounds slightly different. It’s possible the captions have some incompatibility that causes them to not show unless burned. The Roku firmware can be picky how it parses the subtitles, and if it errors, it will ignore them silently. Would you be able to provide the source of a video that is affected? We could inspect the subtitles to verify that’s the case.
