Roku Ultra - Plex No Longer Works - Major Issues - PLEASE FIX

Thank you for taking the time to make this screenshot, I appreciate the effort. I have never seen that ‘Restart App’ option before. However I am using Plex on older 4660x Roku Ultras as well as the latest version of the Roku Streaming Stick. So maybe it’s possible this menu is device specific to the newest Roku Ultra.

I am glad you have the option to restart it from the menu without having to reboot your entire Roku. That is really frustrating! But it is also weird that option only comes up when you enter then exit the Plex app!

Try this. It’s from the Roku forum. Credit to RokuMaryEF over there. Worked for me.

  1. Go to: Settings > System > Advanced System Settings

  2. Select: Control by mobile apps

  3. Change “Network Access” to “Enabled”

@MediaReid What does your suggestion address? The broken navigation button presses after clicking on a season tile?

Additionally, my control by mobile apps setting is already set this way.

You’re welcome. I’m almost wondering if apps are in a sleep or paused state for a while then eventually close after a period of time. That’s all I can think of with mine. Perhaps that’s why the restart app option wasn’t there as it was not already running? I don’t know, but I did in that moment wake the Roku from sleep or at least the screen saver initially.

Sadly, to them it’s all about the money and anyone with a lifetime pass is expendable because there is little to no income from us.

Try that for what?

Found this on the Roku forum - answer provided by RukoMaryEF. Go to the settings in the Roku - using the Roku remote. It fixed my problem and now everything is working properly.

Issues:

  1. Cannot navigate with the Roku remote after you start playing a media file. You cannot pause, rewind, fast forward, click anything other than “back” or home to get something to happen. You hear the Roku remote tone that you have pressed something, but nothing happens.

  2. Cannot navigate the menu at all either, same issue as above. I had to exit to the main menu and tell the Roku to ‘restart the app’ and then the remote started working again, for a little bit.

From the original poster. Even though my settings on the Roku were set to “enabled”on mobile apps originally, the update reset this setting to what the factory setting was. Resetting it again fixed my problem.

You would think they’d realize that 90%+ of their growth has been due to word-of-mouth from folks like us. I’ve switched to Emby and will be taking friends and family with me this weekend. They are as disappointed by the cluster the Roku app has become as I am.

I will look at both Emby and Jellyfin but for now, only as a media player. I have paid for the lifetime Plex Pass and I really only use Plex as a live TV DVR and so far, that is still working so I will continue to use what I paid for, at least for content creation. The PC version is still unmolested with this garbage cell phone UI garbage so I will stop updating there and let it continue to record my shows for me while I watch it on something that is actually usable unlike this poorly adapted drill down garbage that was intended for a small touch screen, not a remote controlled large screen. They have made it clear that they have no interest in us private content users, especially the ones that they are no longer making big bucks on and are counting on people just surrendering to being treated like trash and sadly, they may be on to something but not with me.
