Plex Left Menu Requires Roku Restart

This problem is not fixed. Previous topic is locked. I have to restart my Roku (both 3 and 4) or Plex won’t allow left menu or home menu or whatever it’s called. Of course Roku is up to date and I always update Plex. PLEASE. I’m tired of having to reboot my Roku’s every time I want to use Plex. Help ???

Update June 26, '21: Almost another month has gone by, and I STILL have to reboot my Roku to get access to the Home menu on Plex. Does anybody from Plex monitor this forum? Any support here?

ANYBODY ??? Why no reply from Plex ???

I don’t know what a “Left Menu” is. Can you walkthrough the process for triggering this? Pictures might be helpful.

Do you know the home page on Plex for Roku? When it’s working right, “Home” (at the top of the LEFT hand side of the screen, is highlighted, allowing the user to move down the menu of connected server(s). Therefor, “Left Menu.” When it’s not working right, it is not possible to get to this left side of the screen, and to access anything but what is available on the right. Rebooting the ROKU is the only thing that will fix it. There is an earlier topic on this same problem.

Ahh! Thanks.

No, I haven’t had that issue, but my Roku are built into less-old TVs. I wonder if it’s an old-device memory problem or … something.

I have TCL Roku tv. I cannot access the PLEX left navigation sidebar at all. I can move up and down over media files but cannot move left to get into the sidebar. I always have the latest updates to PLEX.

Having this same issue on a Roku stick and also on a Hisense Roku TV. I haven’t heard of anyone else having problems with other apps ie Xbox, Playstation, Google, etc. Seems to be unique to the Roku app

I am the OP and almost another month has gone by. There is a ‘locked’ topic on this same subject from at least 6 months ago. Does anybody from Plex monitor this forum? I have to reboot my Roku each time I want to use Plex. Is there any hope that this might be fixed?

One of my users has a problem VERY similar to this. They also have TCL and Hisense TV’s. Hey @ruuk I messaged you about this type of problem a few days ago. Do you think we can troubleshoot this. My user is using Plex Preview when it happens. Let me know!

I have had this problem for a few months too.
I have 3 roku box with plex.
I cannot navigate to the left hand side pull down menu area at all to view content.

It only allows navigation on the right hand side of the screen. The only way I can watch anything is to go to the search button on the right side and type in what I think may be available, then it will give me option of playing.
This is very unacceptable and time consuming and makes it almost unbearable to use.

Please resolve…

Left menu, unable to get there and navigate up and down

Exactly. For me, it’s both Roku 3 and 4. In order to use Plex, I have to re-boot my Roku EACH time. Plex is the only app that does this. PLEASE, somebody from Plex, PLEASE fix this. PLEASE.

I have two roku express and one roku 3 (roku 3 not working with iplayer, but everything else fine except for Plex)

I hope this is something that can be solved, but in the ‘worst-case’ scenario - Ultra (refurbs) are $59 (if that’s an option):

I have a fleet of Ultras (all Refurbs) and don’t experience this issue.
I retired my 2HD and my 3s a long time ago.

I have TEN Rokus in my house. Do you feel replacing all of them is a reasonable solution for a bug in the Plex SW? Especially when NO other app is failing in ANY way.

It may not be Plex.
It may be the new Roku OS - My Ultra is up to Version 10.0.0 Build 4209-46

I have no idea what the issue is, but if it falls into ‘Worst-Case’ - you’ll have no options, but one… or 10 in your case.

Frankly I don’t see how you’ve lasted this long.
I dumped all my 3s (and had two friends in the field that got the bad news too) as soon as “Retro” was released - when I realized the box didn’t have enough horsepower to run the Plex App.

You said, “It may be the new Roku OS”

How is that possible, when NOT ONE of my other apps has ANY issue? Nah, it’s not Roku, it’s Plex. And you “frankly” don’t see how I’ve lasted this long? My 3’s and 4’s run just as well as they did when they came out of the box. They load everything just as fast and perform just as well as day-1. Plus, Plex loads and runs just fine–AFTER the Roku is re-booted. No, it’s Plex, not Roku. And I believe Plex knows it as there hasn’t been a peep from a Plex person on this forum after multiple posts on the topic. Also, bear in mind that it is the server side of any Roku “channel” that does most of the heavy lifting. Something’s wrong here, I am very disappointed in Plex.

Sorry for the delay. We are actively investigating this. I hope to have an update this week.

@anon18523487 suggested in another thread that it might be worth factory resetting the Roku.

Preliminary comment was that it seemed to help one user.

Perhaps worth trying!

It also makes me curious - has anybody tried removing and re-installing just the Plex app?

There is no need to factory reset, or uninstall/reinstall. This bug has been replicated, and seems to occur if you exit the channel while you are browsing content from within the more menu. We should have a fix coming soon (preview channel). A workaround in the mean time would be to press back a few times to exit the more menu before you close the Plex channel.
