On my roku i am not able to change plex view to poster or Grid view on home movies. i know i was able change view but since i last few months i don’t see options. i am still able to change view on windows 10 app and on my server. not sure what change. anyone else having this issue or knows how to fix it
The Plex app for Roku does not support the option to change from poster vs grid view.
You may be thinking of the old Plex app for Roku, called Roku Classic. It could be installed and used “as is” by people with really old Rokus. But understand that it has not been developed for over a two years now. So it no longer gets any updates or fixes.
There is also the old RARflix app for Roku that many of use keep installed for some things it does that the current app does not.
It was written by the current Roku Plex developer but is no longer maintained or updated but, for now at least, it works quite well.
Plex seduced the developer to the dark side but RARflix was written before said seduction.
BTW: One thing that rarely gets mentioned is that RARflix can aggregate multiple servers into one listing and it even combines several server’s dashboards (at least the “On Deck” as that is all I use) into one.
It is not as “pretty” and is more complex to set up with all its bells and whistles but it is in many ways superior to what we have now.
Thank you for info, but i am still able to view thumbnail of each movie that i have i just can’t change it to poster view. it was very helpful to identify movies from poster view. hope they would make that change. here is screenshot of roku screen vs windows view. may be helpful to identify my issue
As I stated before, the Plex app for Roku does not support the option to change the view of your media. All of your Plex player apps are not going to be exactly the same. You cannot get all the options that may be offered on one or two Plex player app on every other player app, especially when it comes to the user interface/appearance.
Understand that Plex works on a variety of players/devices by allowing each player to control the interface and playback using its native software. Plex app developers must use the software development kit (SDK) offered by each player/device to create the Plex players app for that device to accesses your Plex Media Server. Though Plex tries to provide as much uniformity as possible, there will always be differences in the Plex player app for each device, because the operating system and SDK of each player/device is different.
The Roku is simple to use and good at media playback, but is not known for its user interface, as you can tell by looking at any other channels/apps offered on the Roku. This is because the Roku SDK is very complicated and limited. And an app/channel to access something as complex as Plex with all its options, features, and user variables is much more complicated than just accessing a specific online video database (which is what most Roku channels/apps do).
Roku is a popular player for Plex despite its user interface because the Plex app for Roku works so well. This is because Plex has a great app developer for the Roku who has been able to get the most out of the limited SDK of the Roku.
thank you very much for your help. i understand the info you provided.
