Running Plex Media Server on Synology NAS fails

Server Version#: 1.32.6
Player Version#: Don’t know
Installed the latest Plex package for Synology. Installed with no issue’s and enabed permissions… But when I go to http://<ip nas>:32400 then the page is loading, but there is no media server which I can setup. So I am connected to Plex, but it is not starting basically.

When I look in the Plex debug logs i see:
{
“type”: “log:message”,
“level”: 1,
“message”: “[Connections] [Loopback] is unavailable at http://127.0.0.1:32400/media/providers (Status 0)”,
“time”: “2023-10-28T07:44:32.283Z”
},

So it does not connect to loopback address. The communication is open in the Synology Firewall. In this stage clients and plex are on the same subnet, where there is no additional firewall. Any idea why the Mediaserver is not working on the Synology and what a root cause could be, where I can succesfully load plex on the 32400 port? Is there a special configuration needed for Synology in order to “see” the mediaserver?

Thanks!

Best Regards…

Moderator Edit: Formatted URL for readability.

Have you tried to access the NAS by it’s ip address?

To setup the server, open a browser window and go to…

http://local.nas.ip.address:32400/web (e.g http://192.168.1.5:32400/web ).

Yes. That is the strange part, that URL works OK and gives me the Plex page. The problem is, is that within Plex I do not see the Media Server running on the NAS. When I go to settings, I only see some plex stuff, but nothing related to the NAS Mediaserver here; so I do not have all the options here… The Mediaserver is not working for some particular reason…

@rnollen

I presume this is DSM 7?

If so, and given I don’t see any servers registered to your account.

  1. Uninstall the server package with the “KEEP” (uninstall only) option

  2. Reinstall the same package EXCEPT use the ‘New or lost’ servers
    – (Plex Claim Token option)

  3. Click the hyperlink to Get Plex Claim Token

  4. COPY the claim token then PASTE back into the window on the installer form.

  5. Click next-next-done and allow it to install.
    6 IF your networking is ok –
    It will take a little longer than normal (it’s obtaining new credentials for you)

  6. If successful, it will also report it was successfully claimed to your Username when done.

  7. Now you can open it.

Awesome. Tested it; and it worked! … I didn’t care to start empty; so I have not tested this option! But it is indeed a requirement then. I had plex on my old NAS a few years ago; didn’t know that you then cannot start empty…

The problem you ran in to (Most Likely) is that the server had the same name ??

If names collide OR on the same IP then Plex.tv and your local browser tokens expect the old server.

The Claim Token is for all those weird cases when it’s not 100% “fresh”

Yes… That is correct, my new NAS has the same name as the old one. I renamed it after all data was migrated and disconnected from the network. The datastructure is also the same; so the old setup is also reused again. I didn’t have to change this, that’s was a big plus. I have reinstalled Plex earlier, on the new NAS, but it didn’t work so I just left it like that…
