Hi, Plex newbie here. Have installed Plex Media Server in my Synology NAS DS1821+ from the Package Center. Application shows “running”. However when I launch the web page I receive no ability to map my local media as the “Get Plex Media Server” button and instructions appear.
Any suggestions on what steps I’ve missed here? Have a friend who installed on his Synology and experience no issues whatsoever. Appreciate the help!
In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP.
If you’re on a machine inside your home network, use http://[Syno IP address]:32400/web. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).
Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
Hey Tom! Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately I’m not even getting the “wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).” prompt. It appears I’m just going directly into the player and the server isn’t seen. I’ve unclaimed and reclaimed the server but still cannot access it from the http://app.plex.tv/desktop url above. Suggestions/thoughts?
Don’t go to the hosted version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) – make sure you’re using the Syno’s local IP address from within the same subnet.
Understood. I went to my SynologyNAS IP (172.72.32.5:32400) and still receive the same error. Is it possible the Synology server instance just isn’t running? I have uninstalled and reinstalled via Synology and also with a Docker container and still yield the same issue/result. No media server identified or wizard starting…
That doesn’t look like a private IP address – are you sure you’re on the same subnet?
If you’re not, you might need to first establish a SSH tunnel to connect to the Syno “locally”.
