Question is - If we are traveling AND internet access is off at my house - what options are in place to view my content - besides downloading to an an external HD and using iTunes… Come on Smart People!!! Does PLEX offer online media storage OR is dropbox/Apple etc less expensive??
You can always sync content to your devices and play it in offline mode in the plex app on your phone, tablet or laptop
Sync to mobile/tablet then chromecast to tv?
You’ll need a router though and internet connectivity for CC but the tablet/mobile will be the “server” so to speak.
I have quite a bit of content in the movie category, not to mention TV series - I suppose I can use an external HD and and a player… I am not a fan of Chromecast- I will figure something out - thanks for all the replies!
Oddly enough Plex is grumpy about using anything aside from mobile to offline sync.
Those android boxes can’t do it either due to them running Android TV, Fire TV 3rd gen/Cube don’t have USB port, and Kodi is a bit of a pain to get running on the mentioned streaming devices.
Cheap and fast imo… raspberry pi and install plex/kodi then plug in usb (you might need powered usb hub)
The pi natively plays most formats aside from x265 and some audio codecs.
If I have the content on HDs anyways - I can use a Mac Mini to play content - I will not have internet access (without using a hotspot via cell) - I think I have figured it out - was just hoping to use PLEX because of the interface…
