Ryzen Transcoding

I’m a bit confused by the Plex documentation about hardware transcoding. The documentation states that only Intel is supported for CPU Hardware Transcoding.

However there’s a few posts on this forum about it working on Ryzen but I’ve only seen Windows posted about. What about Linux support? Has anyone had any luck?

There is no Linux support for AMD hardware transcoding at this time.
Windows has a different rendering architecture. I believe that’s what lead to the confusion.

It is possible to use an nVidia GPU with a Ryzen (or Intel) processor and achieve hardware transcoding.

Thanks for the clarification. Hope to see Ryzen support on Linux sometime but I’ll stick to Intel for my next build then!
