Same Collection tag across Movies & TV?

Hi,

New on the forum here so please guide me in case I make any errors.

I have PMS Version 1.20.1.3252 on my Synology and I have been playing around with the ‘Collections’ feature. I am able to create ‘Collections’ per my choice for Movies and also for TV but these collections seem to be mutually exclusive.
I am unable to see a common ‘Collection’ tag library across Movies and TV shows. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong??

My use case: I have added the two X file movie into a ‘Collection’ named “The X Files Collection” but when I go to the TV section and try to add the TV series “The X-Files”, I do not get the above ‘Collection’ in the tags :frowning:

thanks!!

I don’t really understand what you mean by that. Just type it in the same way as you did for when you added them to the first movie.

If I type in the same way then I end up creating another ‘Collection’ with the same name i.e. I ended up having 2 collections both with the same name “The X Files Collection”, one each in Movies and TV sections.

I want to add both the movies and tv shows to a common ‘Collection’ and don’t want 2 separate ‘Collections’ with the same name as what I am getting in the below screenshot.

Click on one of them and look at what is there.

Ah ha!!! Got it

Both the ‘Collection’ list the 2 movies and TV show. So do I need to delete one of those or is it necessary to keep both of them??

You need to keep both. There is a collection for each type of library. Collections with the same collection tag will show on the same collection. If you enter via the movie collection in movie library then movies will be on top. If you enter the tv collection then the TV shows in the collection will be on top.

You have to keep the collections tag the same. I use STAR WARS for the movies, TV and Music. Each sections has STAR WARS as a collection, and clicking each the Movie Star Wars collection will reference the TV Star Wars in the TV section, and the soundtracks in the MUSIC section.

If you added a custom image and description in the MOVIES collection, you will have to copy them manually into the TV and MUSIC versions.

The only bummer to all this is if you create a playlist, you can’t have TV and Movies in one playlist. Playlists seem to be only able to be created in the section you are in and don’t cross over. There also doesn’t seem to be a collection tag for photos, so if you have a poster collection in your PHOTO section of plex, you can’t tie it into the Movies, Music and TV collections.

Many thanks for the clarification. Will follow these bits.

On a slightly separate note: Can I share a specific ‘Collection’ with certain users and not the entire Movie/TV library?

That I don’t know but am curious about lol

sure you can. The movies and clone wars in one playlist

not at the moment but I believe that is going to be added relatively soon.

Is this a standard playlist or a custom? I couldn’t figure out how to add the star trek movies to play in order of release with the star trek series when I set them up as a custom.

Oh yeah, you cannot add to a smart playlist because the filter it is created by will not spread across libraries.

Playing around, I can create a Movie playlist, then import the smart playlist into it. I’ll have to manually put the non-tv stuff where it should go which is time consuming, but better than nothing! I think provided I keep the smart list of TV shows going as I add new episodes they should appear in the non-smart custom list as both.

Thanks for this, it’s not the perfect solution but at least now I know it can be done! Another project to add to my list! This will work!

Another quick query: Do automatic ‘Collections’ work for TV shows in the same way that it works for Movies ??

Not at the moment. When the new TV agent being worked on I believe we are trying to when it gets released but I don’t want to make false promises.

Got it. Thanks for the info.
