Same Show Different Years

Server Version#: 4.22.3
Player Version#: Roku, Android, Desktop

I have local copies of Top Gear both the old show from 1977 and the new one starting in 2002.
Plex sees both shows as the same TOP GEAR. I changed the folder of each one to say:

Top Gear (1977)
Top Gear (2002)

But Plex sees both folders as the same show. It even links S01E01 from both shows to the 2002 version.

How do I get it to make a different listing in the TV section for the 1977 show? All it shows is the 2002 show. I can’t even play the 1977 episodes.

In TheTVDb.com, the new one is named Top Gear, while the old one is named Top Gear (1977).

If you have re-named the files after Plex initially scanned it, you’ll need to perform “Plex Dance” for Plex to forget that it already has finger-printed the episodes (and originally matched them as the same show).
Steps are:

  1. remove the show folders from the tv shows folder linked to Plex
  2. scan library files – this should result in the shows being gone from your Plex library
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
  5. confirm the naming of your shows (folders and episode files!) and return them to your tv shows folder
  6. scan library files (again)
  7. enjoy the shows being correctly matched

As for #5… the air date should only be required for the 1977 version (as that is officially named that way). However make sure to also include the (1977) segment in all files belonging to that show!!
